I have tried using shift-click and command-click - but cannot select individual photos. If I drag over a range using the drag marquee I can select a block of photos but if the range is not to the margin the selection turns into a regular square. What is the problem?

Thxs.

    To select an object:  Click

To Select multiple not-contiguous objects: Command-Click

To Select multiple contiguous objects: Click on the first then shift-click on the last

Seriously? I'm afraid your question is vague. Using a track pad makes no difference.

Here's the thing: I'm at a MBP all day long and constantly select things, individual, contiguous and non contiguous all the time, with the trackpad.

Likewise except on an iMac with a track pad - selecting all different ways works fine here

Maybe one of the trackpad preferences affects this - I have nearly all enabled
