This didn't help. All indication point to anactive iCloud and Photo Stream. I'm signed In to my iCloud account but clicking on the button to activate Photo Stream says I must be signed on. Right above that message is the message that says I am signed on. Something is haywire. I tried to sign out if iCloud and the sign on again but that process errored out saying my iCloud account couldn't be deleted.

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane. Then log back in and re-enable, respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.
