Not sure what this looks like on the Windows vesion, but the x on the upper left will close the miniplayer and the oval below it will switch the itunes window to the front.
It took me forever to find this info which seems necessary tor really enjoy that miniplayer, but I hope it helps you out. It addresses your search window question specifically. Some of your keys will obviously be different from the mac ones, but tab, spacebar, and esc are the main ones you need.

Thanks for the reply! However, I was wondering what the keyboard shortcut to switch out of the mini-player would be as I would prefer to keep my hand away from the mouse.
Since my original post I've found that you can use shift + ctrl + m to switch out of the mini-player so long as the option to keep it above all windows is not selected, which mine was so I could always see what's playing. I'm glad I found out what the problem was but I'm dissapointed this command no longer works with the player staying above other windows :/

Sorry. Don't know that one on Windows. Hope you find it. Pretty straight forward on my mac.
