Hey guys, I bought an iPhone 5 two days ago and today I noticed that the proximity sensor turns on as soon as the screen goes on. When the screen is locked and the phone on sleep it is off as it should be. But turns on along with the screen. Note that siri has not been activated yet and that the sensor works properly when in a call. I tried rebooting many times, as well as two or three hard resets and two restores as a new iPhone but the problem remains. Do we have a hardware problem here, or just software? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hello,

What do you mean by the proximity sensor turns on as soon as the screen goes on?

the proximity sensor is there to detect when the phone is next to your ear or not through magnetic field?

i dont think i understand what is happening ?

I mean that it is enabled and I can see the red light that it emits right after I turn the screen on. And it stays on until I lock the device.

    Oh wow ok!

I am pritty sure that would be faulty hardware.

as you brought it two days ago it will be under warrenty and if you explain that to them im sure they will be more than willing to help you out and may even swap your handset.

    regards

I wouldn't say that they would be happy to change it for a new one but it doesn't hurt to try

    thanks for your time!

Haha you would be suprised how helpful they actually are in stores when it comes to legitiment devices and problems.

I honestly think you will tell them and show them your problem, they will replace it.

plus there is something called a cool down period which basically gives you customer credit act (all companys have to apply by this legislation act!!) that allows you 14 days to return the product anyway if worse comes to worse

    No worries! good luck

no this is a international legislation act as of 1974!! not alot of people know this but all big companies need to apply this act as there could be law suits and fines elligable.

im from the uk and am being taught this sort of interesting things at college!
