Am used to Tiger find command & permissions. Now using Leopard & both are a bit different.

I can search the user folder except user>library, a search for something I can see in the library brings no results.

Permissions for user folder are (me) read and write, (everyone) - read only. Applied to contents.

Perhaps there is a tutorial out there for permissions with Leopard, seems to me this is where the problem lies.

Hi, I don't have 10.5 at the moment, but did you try sudo find?

    Have not tried sudo

    Here is additional info

If searching user folder (or entire machine) for something known to be in the user library it is not found.

However if the user library folder is selected and searched, success!

This seems abnormal and makes me concerned that other folders may not be included when searching the entire machine.

I use these two for searching...

    Find Any File...

    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.

Thanks for the links. Nice "desk accessories" plus they can find anything anywhere.

My concern is that if when logged in as admin I can not do a search and find folders in my own user directory library. This might well mean that applications may have trouble reading / writing to the library.

Here is another update. I copied the library contents to a new folder and trashed the original. Spotlght / finder can now find files in the library but can not find folders.

I don't understand what you are saying. Can you explain this in another way? Is your own account admin?

Very unwise. It may be impossible to correct the damage done to this account. I advise creating a new account and eventually deleting this one.

Are you concerned with finding files or searching their contents?
