Apple, iTunes 11 is TERRIBLE.  What good is an update that takes functionality away from the end user.  Why would your customer's no longer wish to shuffle songs in their playlists when they push to iPods to listen to music?  Unbeleivable that this is considered an update, really!

You can shuffle playlists that you select to play.  The button is part of the upper display.  Do you mean something else?

You can shuffle thru iTunes, yes.  You can no longer shuffle playlist songs that sync to iPods.

Ooh got ya.  Not sure about that one, sorry.  Someone else will have to chime in.

iTunes no longer displays the songs of your playlist in the "shuffle" order either.  It will display the list in "Date songs were added to playlist" even when song number field is selected.

I'm another one missing the ability to shuffle the playlist before syncing it to my Ipod.  I'm hoping that with an update, they bring that ability back, as I do not have the time it takes to physically do it.  Playlists that have 150-200 songs takes quite a while to arrange.

Come on Apple, BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO SHUFFLE SONGS IN A PLAYLIST!

If you are running with an iPod classic like i am, there is a way to make it work!!  It is done on the iPod, not thru iTunes.  Go to: Settings, Shuffle, select Songs and then set repeat to All.  Whenever you go out of your playlist, then back in, it gets re-shuffled.

Would still be nice to shuffle in iTunes i agree but the iPod will do it for you.

    Hope this helps!!

I'm missing this feature too! And totally agree that iTunes 11 is terrible!

Please Apple, give us the old features back!

I'm having this problem with both my playlists and the Music master list. If I start a song and turn on Shuffle it sorts the songs into Artists, ie on a 'shuffled' list I have to listen to all of Nirvana before I get to No Doubt. But if I deselect shuffle it plays them in alpha order, ie I have to listen to 6 covers of About A Girl before I can get to Been A Son (which'll play twice because it's on 2 albums). It's made listening to music imposible, because I have to click on each track when I want it.

Read a few more posts and I think I've fixed it. Under Controls>Shuffle change Albums to Songs, and now it shuffles the songs rather than sorting them into Albums when I play. 11 is still useless though, they've removed half the features that made iTunes work so well with iDevices and made it even more difficult to manually manage the device connected.

Aside from specific logistical issues - and there are many - the macro problem with this program is what a slug resource pig it is. You'd think that complexity would be apparent for the reources you allocate to run the program. But not so! It's a glitchy, slow dinosaur.

You know what iTunes reminds me of? The old AOL software that was mailed out on CD's in large glossy marketing packages. Once you put that crap on your machine you'd essentially have to format the machine to eradicate it's intrusion in every aspect of your computer (remember it taking ownership of IE).

Why why why can't this program be smaller, more reliable, etc etc etc. It's not innovative to have cloud products with no USB ports for wired transfers and then require the use of a ginat clunky dinosaur to manage the content of those cloud-based-dependent products. That's a glaring contradiction to which I am always referring to when I hear people talk about how innovative Apple is.

I see Apple resting on it's laurels and it fell a%# backwards into becoming a company that is primarily revenue driven by content rather than the technology that delivers it. It's as if the delivery system is a nagging aggravation afterthought. I suspect the music industry regrets there meeting with Apple years ago when P-to-P file sharing was driving them to find a alternative solution. Apple's near monopoly of content and it's pseudo-anticompetitive practices revolving around proprietary solutions may have provided a better outcome for the music industry than the Napsters of the world - but it's only barely better.

I'm way too frustrated by my recent attempts to better setup my Apple devices and content. I need to step away from this exercise for a bit, lol.

Hard to believe that Apple approved this update for itunes.  The simple interface and control of music is what i loved about itunes.  Now it is more time consuming to accomplish a simple playlist update.  Switch back to simple easy interface!  Time is valuable and I do not have time to waste syncing my iphone or ipod.

I agree...it is a HUGE mess, and a dangerous one for drivers who usually use their iTunes while driving!  Besides not shuffling correctly, it no longer has a properly working skip function...you tap the next arrow once and skips through five more songs.  It also starts to play a song, then cuts it off and skips forward.  I have over 200 songs in my iTunes library, and the shuffle only plays 15.  This is the dangerous part...I drive quite a bit, and I loved the old shuffle function.  It played and played until I paused it.  This new one will play fifteen songs then quit.  I have to go back in and tell it to shuffle, and then it does the same fifteen songs again.  RIDICULOUS.  I've read elsewhere that you have to build a playlist.  I don't have time for this.  I like all my songs; iTunes should PLAY all my songs.  After all, I paid for them, right?  Apple, are you planning to fix this?  Because it sure wasn't an upgrade.  And for now I'll use Pandora since you're not interested in being driver-friendly.
