Why does my husband get e-mails every time I add an event to our shared calendar

My husband and I share a calendar through the cloud.  Every time I add an event to our shared calendar, in addition to the event showing up on his calendar on his ipad or iphone, he gets an e-mail saying I've added an event.  How do I turn off the e-mail notices?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
