Why can't I put Boot Camp and Time Machine on the same drive?

I'm trying to use a secondary, internal hard drive for both Boot Camp and Time Machine.  Before setting anything up, I partitioned the secondary drive to make room for both.  I currently have Time Machine set up and working on the first partition. However, when trying to set up Boot Camp, I don't have the option to install it to the second partition...I only have the option to erase the whole drive.  Why is this?  And is there any work around so that Time Machine and Boot Camp can exist on the same drive?

Thanks!
