You can't. CDMA iPhones are all sold locked to a specific carrier and cannot be unlocked for use with any other CDMA carrier. If you wish to use an iPhone with a CDMA carrier, you must buy the iPhone from or for that carrier. Verizon iPhone 5s have their SIM/GSM unlocked, but if you want to use a GSM carrier, it would be best to just buy an unlocked GSM iPhone.

    Regards.

thats not fully true. after a reasonable amount of time, you can ask verizon to unlock iphones (including 5) for cdma and you will then be able to use it on cdma networks internationally too.

You are wrong. Verizon will not unlock the CDMA. Nor will any CDMA carrier I've ever known activate a CDMA phone from another carrier. Verizon will unlock the GSM portion of an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, but not the CDMA functionality.

No. You can't. You have no idea what you're talking about. CDMA phones are effectively permanently locked as there is no legitimate way to flash them so that they operate on a different CDMA carrier.

ah ok you're right, I am sorry.

I was thinking of -------- and I thought that was a carrier supported thing. Doesn't that work though (albeit unofficially ) for other cdma carriers?

---------- is illegal in most of the world due to the way it

functions by abusing the emergency phone network to make

calls. Terms of Service for these fora prohibit discussion of

    or even recommending it.

And CDMA does not use SIMs. Please learn about the technology you're discussing before you start making incorrect suggestions.

I know CDMA doesn't use sims. but i think you can input a another carrier's code or whatever to transfer your phone onto that carrier, if it is unlocked.

    isn't that right?

btw, since having LTE (which is actually GSM technology), verizon is starting to use sims like in the iphone 5. so if there is a cdma carrier abroad who also uses the same LTE bands as verizon, (and assuming for arguments sake verizon CDMA is unlockeD), shouldn't a new sim from the other carrier work?

No, that is not right, since again CDMA does not get unlocked.

Verizon offers both a CDMA and LTE service and can bridge between the two assuming the device, as with an iPhone 5, supports both techologies. But only a Verizon iPhone can connect to Verizon's CDMA service, and the same applies to all other CDMA carriers. LTE can, like GSM, be unlocked, but LTE is a completely different cell technology, and what applies to LTE or GSM does not apply to CDMA.

Again and for the last time, a CDMA-only iPhone, or the CDMA portion of an "world" iPhone, cannot be unlocked for use with any carrier other than the one for which the iPhone is sold.

No. it is absolutely NOT correct.

And once again, you show that you have no idea what you're talking about. LTE is used for data only on a CDMA phone. Voice calls and SMS are still going over the CDMA network. They do not travel on the Sprint LTE network.

    Thanks

How about a slight variation of this question:

Where/how can I buy a Verizon iPhone 5 CDMA model A1429 without a contract (it will already be GSM unlocked...)?

Correct me if I am wrong, but such a phone (contract-free and GSM unlocked) could be used on many different GSM carriers right out of the box (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. although some not with LTE) AND/OR could be used with a Verizon plan, pre- or post-paid, now or later.

Why would he be better off buying a GSM phone?

The CDMA verision of the phone (Verizon version, let's suppose) is exactly the same as the GSM model A1429, as far as I can tell, except that it can access more LTE bands AND can be used on Verizon's network if the user decides to go that way later on. Seems to me like a person who wants to use a GSM carrier, but isn't sure if they will switch to Verizon or an international GSM carrier before they plan on getting their next phone, will be better off with a contract free CDMA model 1429 (unless they want to use AT&T). Isn't that correct?

Hi, there seems to be a solution to FULLY UNLOCK the A1429 CDMA. I can find them here on China's market. These phones are from Verizon but can work with China Telecom, which is China's CDMA network. Actually they work perfectly with both GSM &CDMA network. However since I've never been to the US, I have no idea whether these phones work with Verizon or AT&T. Price for these is slightly higher than unlocked GSM ones, with an additional 20-40 bucks or so.
