I suspect you may be a recent convert from MS Windows, if so you are used to the way Windows works which is different from OS X. Howerver you can download a utility that should help if you prefer the MS Windows method. It's called RightZoom and is available from www.macupdate.com

Yes, you are right. Im just moved from a pc to an iMac. Thanks for this info which ill go on and look at, however i would have thought a simple thing like the document folder, or any folder for that matter would open the size and way it was closed. or am i asking too much?
Does this not annoy anyone else?

When I coverted 6 years ago from a PC I had the same issue and frankly liked the MS Windows method. OS X is different, IMHO all the other advantages of OS X far outweigh this extremely minor feature. However once you download and install RightZoom you should be in good shape.
