Type in "the new itunes11" in any search engine and you'll see reviews like this...

"This new version won't please every iTunes user. Some familiar ways of doing things have changed and some longtime features have been axed in the name of simplification."

There is so much B.S. surrounding the reviews of this new launch. Bring back the old iTunes!

Yes, it sounds like those reviews were paid for or the reviewers never really used the product...

It really does sound like those reviews came from Apple Puppets.

OK, I finally get to pass along a tip or two.

Cover art in Artist view. iTunes examines all albums for a given Album Artist, looks for the album with the highest net rating (album with the highest percentage of highly rated songs) and uses THAT cover art in the Artist view.

It is possible to manipulate this behavior. If you don't like the cover iTunes decides it wants to use, go into THAT album and set all the song ratings to zero. You'll notice that iTunes will pick the album with what is now the highest net rating. Now go back and change the ratings on that first album. The artist cover art should remain unchanged. I total PITA if you ask me. The Set Default Grid Artwork command worked just fine IMHO.

If the Artist view cover art is blank and clearly some of your albums have cover art, this is a bug. Select all the ablums for that artist, go in and change the Album Artist field in some trivial way (delete one character). You'll see that the art "pops" in place. Then go back in and correct the Album Artist field.

This is all a major PITA but at least I understand how to fix it.

Where's my paycheck Apple? Clearly, your own QA people didn't do as much testing as I have done in the past three days.

    Interesting, thx!

Do you also know how to change the ugly Genre icons?

This is the first time I've actually tried to go back to a previous version of a software (and failed at it since I can't seem to uninstall itunes 11).

One of my (numerous) pet peeves is that I can't search my ipod music.  When I search, it searches my library.  Well, I don't keep all my music on my laptop. I needed to update a playlist and had to go through genre and then scan for the titles I wanted.

And the search for duplicates seems to be gone.

I know a lot of people complain about itunes, but IMO the previous version gave me much more control and options than this lead ballon.

Good to know I'm not alone with this problem.  Come on Apple, there's no reason why the Search function should cease to search iPods!  Please fix this!

Ok: I have just found a new missing feature: the ability to convert file types.  One of the biggest things I use iTunes for is creating meditations which I do in a compatible bit of software (even GaragBand sometimes).  I then bring it into iTunes and convert it into a couple of different formats so that I can give it to clients in the appropriate format (some have MP3 players, some use iTunes which I used to recommend, some have old CD players, etc).  This option has now gone.  I wonder how I work now?  I am sure I can spend the next few weeks working out a workaround, or finding new software... but oh my: they have just removed 5 years of doing it this way - simple and effective....  ho hummmmm

The problem for the media would also be how to explain that iTunes 11 *****?

With Maps you could show stupid pictures of bridges hanging over cliffs and the iPhone 5 scratches were also visual.

But how to explain to readers that they completely screwed up the navigation in iTunes and that the GUI lacks attention to detail? Tough job for your run-of-the-mill journalist who has 1-2 hours to write a piece...

I think you can still do that.

Go to iTunes > Preferences > Import settings and select the format you want

Then right click on the titles you want to convert and the selected format should show up

No guarantee, though - I'm back on iTunes 10.7 already, hence, can't test it...

I think the Apple engineers must have been smoking something when they designed iTunes 11. I can't believe they released this garbage, or that it received any favorable reviews.

I don't have time to troubleshoot or call Apple Support to figure out all the things they broke, hid, or deleted; or to downgrade to the previous version, but it's virtually unusable for me.

    Awful! Awful! Awful!

It's different. Remember that catch phrase.

Just like Final Cut Pro X is different than FCP7 - the latter was actually was useable by "pros".

Having been an Apple user/advocate for the past, oh, 20 years or so, I can say it's a sad day. Apple seems to have gotten caught up in the "change is good" hype. Change is only good if it IMPROVES a product. There are maybe two improvements in iTunes11, but there are many more stupid, unproductive "changes" in the update. One small, but significant change is the function of the tri-coloured buttons in the upper left corner. A few versions back, Apple decided to make the green button toggle full-screen mode, only to correct it in the next update to toggle between a user-sized window and the mini player, which is the way iTunes has worked from day-one - and much more intuitive. They did it again in v11, Why?

Apple needs to get back to simple, clean, and intuitive interface design. If they want to implement a "change", at least provide the user  the option to go back to the old method.

I HATE itunes 11 and this is the very first time that I hate an Apple product so much, even worse than the dusts inside my iMac screen!

Why those engineers feel justified to remove so many useful features like Cover flow, itunes DJ, cover zooming...? Now I can't even have a decent view of a single album? The floating view is just a joke.

veeeeerrrrrrry dispointed! Whoever did this version should get fired!

It seems clear that Apple is preparing iTunes to be the front end of a new streaming service, probably for video as well as audio, and theat they want a "pretty" front end that works well on small screens for that purpose.

Perhaps they haven't noticed that Spotify, which is cleaning everyone else's clock, has one of the ugliest interfaces ever.  Really, only a computer geek could love it (can't say only a mother -- they wouldn't want to look at it either)-- it looks like a spreadsheet gone bad.

HOWEVER, with Spotify you sign up, download, and you are ready to go -- erverything is right there in front of you.  No hidden menus, no obscure options, no mistakes to make -- it just works.  (Remember another company who could once say that?)

Apple could still come out with a streaming option that would be prettier than Spotify, yet still easy to use -- but that is not iTunes, which has always been about OUR media OUR way.  If that's what they want to do, let them provide us with a new tool that will do all the things iTunes USED to do,.

P.S.  While I generally agree that the media is only looking at the pretty surface of 11, check out the Australian MacWorld review. It's somewhat lenghty but written by someone who really knows how the program works.  Although it (wrongly, I personally believe) comes down in favor of the new version, it at  least acknowledges many of the flaws.

What I find irritating are some of the smaller changes that ultimately make the new iTunes irritatingly less "user friendly".

For example, if you have TV Shows from multiple seasons, iTunes always defaults back to the earliest season when you perform actions on an episode, for example marking it as "Watched" or just plain WATCHING it.

For example, I am watching old episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" from season 2 and every time I double-click to watch an episode, iTunes starts the episode but also changes the window selection back to season 1.  The really irritating thing about this is that the scrolling in the new iTunes is pretty laggy, so scrolling back up to click on the tabfor season 2 is an irritating herky-jerky affair.

Did I mention that the new iTunes is irritating?

OMG this is so frustrating. I'm sure at some point i'll get used to it but this change has come at the worst possible time and some of the changes are horrible. I want my Album view back where i had Album art on the side column and the tracks listed beside it. so i could see everything at once. how do i get back the option for Coverflow, List view or Icons. I don't have time for this ****. it wasn't broken. it didn't need this overhaul. : (

    PLEASE guys !!

DON'T forget to send feedback to Apple here :

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

if enough of us do it we have a good chance of things being changed as it has happened in the past. also spread this across any iTunes related threads you might post in for or against this version

    thanks
