    Previous post -

Charged via USB completed roughly 3:15 reaching 100%. Powered device off then turned on and will track drain, check 10:25 CST. All activity and use will remain consistent.

Here the results. Didn't take too long. 7hr 31min total drain. Very limited use, even less than usual just to see hot that effected the battery.

    Times I checked.

    1145, 93%.

    1215, 85%

All using wireless. Checked Email, notes, FB and camera to take one picture.

    1315, 74%

    1355, 66%

Keeping all apps closed after each use.

    1415, 62%

    1500, 48%

Mind you there is little to no use of the device today.

    1515, 35%

    1600, 33%

With a 14 minute phone call. No other activity.

1601, dropped to 26% - Not sure if the first check recalculated the percentage.

    1613, down to 21%

    1625, 16%

    1700, 10%

    1715, 8%

    1748, 2%

1756, 1% then died. Was not used except to check battery since 1600 after the phone call.

I only believe this supports that there is a battery issue and based on my limited involvement on this topic plus my usage of my phone, it's got to be a code issue. I'm calling the carrier tomorrow to see if perhaps they've made changes that could effect signaling/connection draw. Doubtful but worth a call. I don't believe that the Wall/USB port charging theory makes a difference.

In short I was using my phone from 0530 to 2300 daily without having to charge or even getting the 20% battery message. I updated my phone 11/30/2012 to 6.0.1 and since then I have had this issue. I had the phone since 2 weeks from the release date.

Going to read others posts and review any new material. Might go the DFU route again without a restore since I did go against that recommendation. I have my items I need so a restore shouldn't be necessary next time.

    Enjoy.

It's definitely a coding problem and the battery meter isn't even linear. People who say their battery is fixed because it lasted for a long time before dropping down to 99% are being tricked. Once the battery gets lower it seems to drain faster. Especially under 20%- you don't even have to open an app and you can see it ticking down like the post above.

Doubt it's a carrier/carrier settings issue as people all over the world are getting it.

Just have to wait to see if the next update fixes anything. Otherwise I'm waiting on a JB for better diagnosis.

For anyone who was facing excessive heating issues , i would request you to head to the app store and update tunein from 3.1 to 3.2. That is if you had tunein the app.  I was getting major heating issues along with battery drainage. Now while 3.2 seems to have helped the heating issues to an extent the battery issues persist.

Another thing. I know this is very difficult because the iphone5 is very delicate and everyone likes using a cover on their phone. But try using the phone without the cover and see if this helps ? ..

PS: We are reaching the 200th page and still hoping for some success ;(

i agree people are being tricked. For me from 100 to 90 % i get 1 hour usage, then from 90-80 another 1 hour and then from 80-70 40 mins . By this logic the iphone would have been a wonderful gadget to use as i would have been getting close to 7-8 hours of usage however i get just 4.5 hours. Something like all the other users on this forums. So yes people are being deceived by the first 10 % (100-90%)

Tricked?    If you pay attention to this thread and what people are getting for TOTAL usage out of a charge, there's no "trickery" whatsoever.   When on wifi, I can easily get 8 - 10 hours of usage and sometimes more.   When away from wifi, battery life for a full charge drops significantly, with many people reporting 4 hours usage or less before running out of power.   Who cares what the battery meter registers after 20min off the charger?   If I'm worrying about how much power I have left after 20min, I need to take a pill............

AS everyone tries to troubleshoot this issue, its obvious that there is no current fix on our end.  Between all the restoring, toggling on settings, charging as per USB or wall charger, our iphone 5 battery issues have nothing to do with those things.  I myself have attempted all of the so called fixes and nothng works.  On wifi only, the phone would have decent usage but on cellular/LTE its terrible.  Draining at a very fast rate with usage or stanby.

Apple is obviously aware as well but will not addrrss this as they have no current fix either.  There is no possible way anyone will get the 8 hours browsing on LTE or 8 hours talk time.  Actually, being on the phone drain battery ridiculously fast.  Its pretty clear that the iphone 5 battery is can not suffiently handle whats going on while the phone is on cellualr netowrk.  But to put everyone at ease, none of you have a defective phone. This problem is universal for all iphone 5 users.  Those who have the 9-10 hour usage is defintely ony on WIFI....

the only possible fix would be from Apples end.  None of the troubleshooting we are doing will work.  Its either a software problem that hpefully apple can issue an update to fix or its a general hardware issue of the iphone 5 battery and its what we will have to deal with for the life of the iphone 5.   But APLLE does state UP TO a certain amount of hours... " UP TO " Nice one Apple

None of us should have to waste the time to reset, restore, reboot, ETC... we pay hundreds and some even thousands or dollars for this phone.  Eventually, people will shift over to other brands out of pure frustrations.   Battery should be the last thing we worry about for mobile devices.

Sorry i didn't mean trickery in that way. But your right , and anyways here's something interesting. Although the customer care guy told me to calibrate just once , this is the 3rd time im calibrating. I consider this good improvement ? ..

Here this was yesterday all on 3G ( Dont look at that wifi sign. Its wifi cuz i entered the house and then i took the pic. And when your near your router it connects to wifi) Charged via usb

you can clearly see the difference in usage and standby. Im going to drain it 2 more times and charge via usb. Im not saying im onto something. If you wish to follow this please by my guest. Im just sharing my point of view

Remember everyone, it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue and this proves it.

I PROMISE you'll have AMAZING battery life if you do this:

    1. Restore back to factory settings. (install a fresh copy of iOS 6.0.1)

    2. Set up phone as new and don't sync ANYTHING BUT YOUR CONTACTS!

    3. Use the phone as is, like you just pulled it out of the box.

Watch how long your battery lasts, even with heavy usage. It's like night and day!

Can people please stop stating this in this thread? We all know there is an issue with restoring from an iPhone 3GS/4/4S to the iPhone 5. We know it will cause the battery drain issues, as well as other problems..

Please stop telling people this is the answer... This is not the cause for a majority of the people in the thread...

I never had an iPhone before the 5 and my battery is still crap.

the first image you posted is the notorious 4 hour usage / 8 hour standby. This is the biggest issue here... i could live with the 4-5 hour usage if atleast it wouldn't drain the battery in standby..

this is the big one, this is the issue that needs to be fixed..

I believe if you are getting less then 8 hours standby, it's strictly a software issue with power management.

How are your e-mail accounts set up on this phone?

This has nothing to do with restoring from a backup, so stop getting your panties in a bunch when people like myself are trying to help others.

Do as I stated above and your battery will work flawlessly, even with no WIFI and on 3G/LTE.

Once you add a mail account and or icloud syncing, things go south fast. Does that have to do with a back up??? NO.

OK......    You believe what you want and report back after iOS6.1 is released.   If the problems are solved, many of us in here (including me) will bow down to you.   I'm betting you will still be here complaining with the rest of us however...

I agree this is a mail issue and also an issue with power management, i don't use iCloud so I cannot talk on behalf of that.. but restoring is not neccessary..

I went from 4 hours usage / 8 hours standby, with Gmail set as exchange with push enabled and everything else to default settings..

I changed to gmail setup as gmail with fetch at 30 minutes, and disabled location services for passbook. I now get 7.5 hours usage / 15-20 hours standby.. I can also stream mp3's over bluetooth for long periods of time with next to no battery usage in this configuration.

The problem I believe is when setup as push, i believe the phone doesn't properly go into a standby state.

today i noticed there's an issue with calendars as well.removed my calendars couple of weeks ago,yet today i got a birthday notification of one of my facebook contacts again.as i deleted this i dont understand how suddenly my birthday calendar is once again notifying me with this bs.im telling you this phone is full of bugs.and apple doesnt respond to any of this to save face.their biggest selling product is now the worst they ever released and they simply dont want to admit it because otherwise the world would think they are lost without steve and would damage their reputation..iphone 5 is a dud,im sorry i blindly bought this sh*t phone, shame on me i guess for fully trusting a company, and being sure they would give me an excellent product.spending some 700€ no questions asked.valuable lesson for me,hurts me to say it but i no longer have the best phone on the market, galaxy s3 is,in this condition, the better phone.that is if this is not fixable.and if they do fix it,still, shame

on you apple!you deliberately deceived us,your faithfull customers, but that wont happen again because iphone 5 buyers wont be as dumb next time.
