Like all of the rest of you, I had the 36 hour or so outage of icloud mail.  I too rely on email throughout the day, and was totally ticked off.  My mail is back up, it's working fine, and I'm happy.  I'm not giving up on Mac; I've been a mac user since the early ninteties, and was a mobile me user since its inception.  I love the icloud, love my mac and my iphone and Apple technology, and am not abandoning ship.  Apple got us up and going as quickly as possible.  I suggest we just take a deep breath, relax and stay calm.

Kissing *** will get you nothing but a fit of spitting. That's if they notice, even.

Sorry John, wasn't kissing anything.  You've misread my post.

I like a lttle sycophantic action myself, but I prefer the stick to the carrot. For them, that is, me, I'll take the carrot.

Having email down for 24 hours is unacceptable but understandable given the complexities of supporting a million plus users - but to not acknowlege it or offer any explanation, or simply deny it happened is flat out unacceptable, from any company, anywhere, anytime - period!

Because it is happening to so few people it is not considered news.

Allan - I'm really not sure what your problem is?  There was a significant failure and the majority of us wanted better feedback.   Although a little late in coming, I have at least received the following communication from the iCloud Team....

Message was edited by: rn1001 Dear ROBERT, We apologize for the mail service interruption you recently experienced. Your mail service has been restored, but it is possible you did not receive some of the emails sent to your account between 5 p.m. PDT September 10 and 3 a.m. PDT September 11. We understand this is not acceptable and we are working hard to make sure this does not happen again. Our customers are very important to us and we want you to have the best experience with iCloud. We appreciate your patience. -iCloud Team

I don't have a problem. I simply stated that there probably wasn't a signdifcant number of users who were effected hence the reason the outage didn't make headlines as j.ortiz seemed to think it should have happened. What might be significant to the users might not be significant to the news media as happened in this case.

Lexington Tutoring, LLC uses both gmail and me.com.

1.We have our Microsoft Office for MAC 2011 preferences set to receive emails sent to both to the same outbox.  The gmail account is only a backup for us, as we find the iCloud options to be more robust and attractive.

We have our gmail preferences set to POP (on your computer) and IMAP (web mail) in the following way:

    • Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 2/27/11
    • Settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>Status: IMAP is enabled --Enable IMAP
    • When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted:           Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default)

    2. During the outage, we used the web mail (IMAP) gmail

This didn't totally eliminate teeth gnashing during the outage, but it did help us to maintain good service to our students and their parents while iCloud mail was down, as we notified everyone to temporarily use our gmail address and then, when service was restored, asked them to revert to our me.com address. I've heard that gmail can also experience outages but I don't recall them having had one in the 4 years we've been using the above system.

We are still hoping that someone will tell us about a better alternative to either gmail or me.com. Anyone have one?

It's now September 27, and iCloud Mail is still displaying emails without Subject line and dated 12/31/69.

Any resolution path for sorting this out?

    Regards,

    Sean

You really should start a new thread. Your problem will get more recognition that way.

    Hi Brad

Probably best to start a new thread.  This thread centred around a major outage in mid September.  The iCloud team were burying their heads in the sand, loads of loyal iCloud users were left in the dark and the lack of any communication from Apple was very frustrating. My confidence was restored when I was fortunate enough to receive an admission/apology from iCloud on 14 September:

Your issue may be localised and I suggest, if you haven't already, checking your settings and restarting your PC. This has worked for me in the past....
