On Tiger I was able to convert files to mp3 by clicking on "Advanced" and the "Create mp3". Now when I do that the option isn't mp3 but rather AAC. How do I convert to mp3 as I used to do on Tiger? I'm now running Snow Leopard.

iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - - including information about different formats and discussion about compression.

In iTunes11: File > Create New Version

In iTunes 11 "Create..."  is in the File menu, not the Advanced menu.

    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v.1.1 -

Back up your computer first, both before applying the combo updater and then again before installing iTunes 11.  Many people are not liking iTunes 11 and if you have a proper backup it makes it a lot easier to back out again.

I use a free app called all2mp3. It's free & works great thru Mountain LIon.

Go into settings/general/import settings and you should be able to tell iTunes to create MP3s not AACs.  Then when you try to "create new version" (iTunes 11) or "create XXX version" (iTunes pre 11) the option should be for MP3 not AAC.

When you set the Import Settings to MP3, any file(s) in the library you select can be converted to MP3 from the File menu (in v11). Just drag the originals into the window so that they appear in the Music list, select them, and convert: then delete the originals.
