I know this is an old post, but I had a tough time adding my lexmark 4650 printer and getting it to work over wifi. If anyone else is having wifi problems, I had to use the HPjetDirect protocol and it worked after that. It seemed counterintuitive, but I saw some posts in other places, so I figured I'd give it a try. If anyone is having problems with mac printing over wifi, maybe this will help.
Oh, I've got OS10.8.2 (which is not the same at the OP)

My Lexmark is long since in the recycling system. Biggest mistake I have EVER seen Apple make, and they never even acknowledged it. I got the Kodak mentioned above and it works fine - only occasionally have to restart the printer, but NEVER reinstall software or reboot the computers.

Well the problem of drivers & printing breaking at every upgrade seems to be fixed for now (indeed without any apologies or explanation from Apple and also I have an irk they may yet come back).
However WiFi printing is still rather haphazard as it suffers from very frequent connection loss, where the print queue complains it cannot reach the printer. One batch (usually the first goes out just fine, the next may well fail. Both our iMac and MacBook Pro (recent models) have this very annoying problem. And no : this is not a bad WiFi network, as all other network activity does not suffer from this in the least!! I daresay I am technically quite savvy to boot.
Cheers, next printer will indeed be not a Lexmark.

Unfortunately even 2.11 upgrade from Apple breaks everything. I have 10.8.2 and I was trying to use scanner via WiFi - my printing was fine over WiFi. Finally I decided to try newest Apple drivers (2.11) hoping it will finally solve all problems - how naive .... Again total disaster . Now I have to start reinstall procedure from scratch to get back my WiFi printing again .....

The new Lexmark driver package for lion 10.7 and above does not contain the unsinstaller and even not the printer installation assistent.
you have to download from the package for Lion 10.6 to solve your problems from here:

This worked for me except for step #3. I needed to download install the 6600Series Web Installer 1.1.0 from Lexmark. Only 5 or 6 hours to stumble on that combination....
I have a Lexmark X6650 and running OSX 10.6.8.

The HPJet Direct protocol worked like a charm! Thank you SO much! I've been banging my head on this brick wall for over a month trying to figure out a way to make I can print to my network printer over WiFi again. I feel whole again.
