Q: my factime says unable to connect, check internet connection, but safari works for using the internet

I get the message unable to connect, please check your internet connection when I am trying to get started with facetime. I am connected because I can use safari. I get the same message when trying to get started with i-messages. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

iPod touch, iOS 6

    Try:

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Go to Settings>General>Date&Time and make sure it is set to Automatic

    - Go to Settings>wifi>the connected network and change the DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8

    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sign out and sign back in

    Maybe:

Using FaceTime and iMessage behind a firewall
