I have been using my iPhone instead of my iPod touch recently and went to turn on my iPod for the first time in 7 months and my passcode won't work.  I am 100% positive I have the right passcode but it is not working.  I tried to restore my iPod by pressing and holding the power button and the home button, and then updating and restoring my iPod but when I attempt I get an error message that states "This device isn't eligible for the requested build."  I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on my MacBook Air, and my iTunes is 10.6.1 which I cannot update unless I update my computer system to Mac OS X 10.6 and from what I gather I cannot restore my iPod unless I update my iTunes.  I also cannot use my iPhone on my computer either.

A little frustrating that Apple sets up these new systems like iTunes 11 and new opperating software which doesn't allow you to use a 3 year old computer with your iPod, iPhone, or iPad.  If they continue I'm not pouring my money into Apple products any more if I cannot use them without buying some software update.

Any suggestions for fixing this?

iPod touch, iOS 4.2, Mac OS X 10.5.8 system, Itunes 10
