Q: Mac mini/Samsung display speaker control not working

I purchased a brand new mac mini as well as a samsung 23inch display (S23B550) w/ built-in speakers. I am trying to control the volume from the display through the keyboard or the volume bar in the mac and it wont let me. The only way I can adjust and/or mute the sound is by physically adjusting in the monitor itself (which is a pain!).

Can anyone give me some insight on this problem please.

BTW, my display is connected to the mac via HDMI

You are using HDMI as your connection so the HDMI connected device (the monitor) controls the audio. If you want to control the volume via Mac OS, connect via the headphone jack to the Audio In port on the monitor and adjust the PC/AV Mode under Setup & Reset in the Samsung menu.
