Mediaflow is also not the default enabled view. It needs to manually be enabled. Just thought i'd point that out.

FYI, at least someone at MacWorld is listening. MacWorld just published an article titled "Bugs and Fixes: Troubleshooting iTunes 11" which notes "The range of missing features lamented by iTunes users is wide and deep", and:

"By far, the most frequent lament was the loss of Cover Flow view for library items... many users described Cover Flow as perhaps their favorite feature in iTunes 10. Many people have been so upset about the loss of this option that they are looking to downgrade back to iTunes 10.

The article then notes that many users have downgraded or intend to downgrade, and offers links to "how to" pages. In addition -- and I think this is big -- in the section on people being upset that Cover Flow is gone Macworld has a direct link to this Support Communities thread.

Of course, this is no guarantee that Apple is listening (or cares), but the broader community is certainly aware of these issues at this point. Go read the full article!

Thank goodness people are finally listening - but we have to keep up the pressure and let Apple know how seriously they have misjudged the way devoted fans of i tunes use the system.

I've loved every upgrade since I started using i tunes over 10 years ago - but this one is just awful and a huge mistake.

The loss of cover flow is bad enough but for me an even worse problem is the dreadful new search facility.  Searching for songs, artists, albums etc used to be so straightforward but now you have to go through multiple, and completely unnecessary, filters before getting to where you want to be.

I find myself having to use the "songs" filter at the top of the screen but then getting no artwork at all - a huge retrograde step (and yes I know I can click on the little artwork at the top of the screen but that really isn't the same thing).

    Keep up the pressure folks....

UNBELIEVABLE - I am shocked to hear coverflow has been removed.  I use coverflow all the time, on all of my apple devices (exc iPod Classic as Apple never rectified the issue to display via album/artist).  Its the closest we get today to holding an album (CD/Vinyl).

I can only hope that Apple can see this as a genuine mistake and give us back coverflow, PLEASE!!!!

I agree that the search function is actually slower than in iTunes 10.7. One rationale for removing Cover Flow was to make iTunes "lighter" and faster. Except it's not. I did a test with my MacBook Pro  (3 and a half years old) running iTunes 10.7 with Cover Flow versus a top--of-the-line Mac Mini (less than a year old) running iTunes 11 (Both computers have 8GBs RAM, and both have over 25,000 songs in their libraries -- so no iCloud.) The laptop running 10.7 found albums, artists and songs consistently faster, so purely as a databas iTunes 11 is a step backwards. And besides being satisfying to look at, Cover Flow is quite helpful during searches for quickly spotting the right album.

Already commented on Cover Flow and do want it back it seems such a bad decision to remove completely and almost anti-Apple step that turns it into a bunch of spreadsheets with one view that is at least visually pleasing but heavy on the white for my taste.

It is clear that the redesign was largely driven by marketing desires of iTunes and I have no issue with that in fact like the in store option personally. But, I have wondered about the lack of discussion on it.

Key issues I have seen as regular and ranging from just annoying to what I would call bad programming and logic.

Biggest problems that have been showing up regularly:

Search function is dismal - has many logic issues and outright does not work much of the time. Album Artist field that seems to override all search functioning and an issue with "best of" or " greatest hits" in titles.

Whoever enters data on items in iTunes Store has been given ok to call things whatever they want adding sometimes many levels of bracketed identifiers causing linking ripped items to be in identifiable as well as using different names than what a CD may have. (I get ok we don't care you didn't buy it from us find artwork somewhere else or scan it yourself but in a sales driven item I would think the company would want in store function working.

Changes are 99% accepted and updated but regularly changes seem accepted but not updating for display.

Probably my biggest annoyance is the way it seem as if iTunes 11 is a petulant child. If you search an item and you find it but check store or anything else the page resets to here ya go album view at start again do your search again and the fire works of it starting or finishing a rip and not caring what you are doing and causing a cascade through any program open to put iTunes on top is so annoying and clunky it makes even Windows look elegant - I always liked that Mac seemed to function with the concept that you may have some idea what you were doing vs Windows assuming you are an idiot.

So yes bring back Cover flow but please god fix the **** program as a whole.

    ***??

Yea, I am old guy who considers album art important, a part of the whole music experience. I was royally bummed a couple of years ago when I lost the ability to scale album art in column view in the iTunes 10 upgrade, but I learned to live with that.... Thankfully I didn't upgrade my old iMac G4 and I can have it the way I REALLY like it in iTunes 9...

If I want a completely passive listening experience, I will listen to the radio. If I want to explore, organize, beautify and immerse myself in my music and my music library (36K mp3s and growing), I want the art to be an integral part of that experience.... iTunes and apple, I guess, doesn't want that for me... My son upgraded and I was able to see the new iTunes. Initially I was impressed, but when I started to look under the hood... well, I was soooo glad I didn't upgrade. No coverflow?? Really.... ***???????

But can I ask you something.... seriously... They still have the visualizer??? Are you eF-ing kidding me?? Talk about old fashioned... I guess Apple doesn't want me to have dig out my old lava lamp, LOL and since I haven't stoked my bong in about 3 or 4 decades it doesn't matter anyway... Visualizer but no coverflow...

Hello??? Is anyone in there? Apple??

Very UNHappyScot...bring back Coverflow, made life so easry browsing through the album covers.  Another case of big brother making the decisions without speaking to its customer base first :-(

Exactly! It was never shoved down anyone's throat! Now I don't know if your trying to get sarcastic we me or your agreeing with me but if it was never default it should have been still available as an option for us to either turn it on or shut it off right?

Sorry if you took any of that as sarcasm. I am actually a person that takes great interest in ethics and ethical coding. I am deeply mortified with apple for leaving out coverflow within this new "core".  They could have atleast re-released it as a seperate addon program (binary) with media link. As well as the features i mentioned earlier like CF iphone remote linkup. etc.

I mean the first thing i think about when i hear the word iTunes IS coverflow. Coverflow is itunes and itunes is coverflow.

This isn't iTunes, this is something else.

You've never worked in advertising, I see. It takes months to go from copy to distribution. As I said, optimistic. The software has barely had time to cool off. They'll update the ads, but I'd be very surprised if that were to happen prior to the next product refresh. The ads were accurate at the time of the product announcement.

"Second, are you seriously suggesting that the decision to drop Coverflow from iTunes was made after this commercial was produced?"

No, but had they displayed an iTunes that wasn't released yet, no doubt you'd be whinging about truth in advertising and reporting Apple to the UASA.

Point: We miss Cover Flow. It's gone and it *****, yes. Trying to get Apple in trouble with the Guv because you're PO'd seems (to me) over the top. Petulant even.

Actually I've worked in advertising all my life and my point is not to cause Apple any more grief than they have caused themselves.

If this anomaly draws their attention to the furore that leaving Coverflow out of iTunes has caused then that is good. That is the goal of all of us right?

Very good point. I can't remember the last time I ever used that. It was a gimmick when it first came out but quickly became tired.

Coverflow on the other hand constantly evolves. Add new music, add new art. I have no objection to finding and downloading my own art either. I prefer high res like I prefer high res sound (I can count on one hand the tracks purchased from iTunes) so most of my library is personally ripped and personally assigned artwork. That's why I find it particularly galling when iTunes 11 decides to strip me of my own stuff.

That's some good news at least, being in the press is a good way to gain attention. Whether it will make a difference well we can only hope, has any one seen the "iPad keeps crashing" thread? Hundreds of thousands if views and tens of thousands of replies all with the same problem, myself included, it has still not been addressed.
