my usb port is not working

One of my usb-ports is not responding in any way. Is this a hardware issue or a software problem? What can I do to adress this problem?


MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    Probably not a software issue - you could try running the Apple Hardware Test and see if you get any errors: if you do, you'll know that you need service. If you don't you'd still need to take your machine into your local Apple Store for further diagnostics.


    Resetting NVRAM or the SMC usually doesn't solve USB problems.
