My ipod will not turn on. It does not turn on, charge or come up in itunes when i plug it in.

I have tried to reset it by pushing down the "select" & "play" buttons, but nothing happens.

I have tried plugging it into various power sources, computers and have tried different usb chords.

It is just over 1 year old and does not have any water damage that I am aware of.

Any suggestions??

You should leave the iPod to charge (whether that be via a USB or wall adapter) for at least 30 minutes at minute before it may show any signs of life.  Even then, sometimes a hard reset is still necessary after those 30 minutes. To do a hard reset, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Sounds like a hardware issue then, in which case you'll need to take/send the iPod in for repair or replacement. Apple can do an out of warranty exchange for a flat fee or you can send it into a third party service to have them figure out what is wrong with it (such as a dead battery) and replace the faulty parts for a price a little less than what you would pay when going the Apple route.

    Hi b-rock,

    Thanks for the advice.

What kind of third party service would you recommend? Any type of electronic repair shop?

And if I were to send it in to Apple would I just call and ask for an extended warrenty and then send it in to them via mail? I live in a medium sized city, I don't think there is any Apple outlets (only futureshop that sells apple).

    slightly technologically challenged,
