Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

Hello Linc, when i run my serial through the apple database, it came out as 2009, but the model was discontinued mid 2010. would this unit still be covered by the apple program. i believe at some point my logic board was replaced ( because my serial number does not show in about this mac or the system report). plese advice. i am arranging for the unit to be sent back to the US for service. i appreciate your help.

would this unit still be covered by the apple program.

Only Apple can answer that question. I don't represent Apple.

Most possibly you will get rid of the kernel panics simply by de-selecting the "Automatic graphics switching" in the "Energy Saver" under "System Preferences".

This may work and solve most of the kernel panics on Apple systems with dual graphics where the Intel HD graphics are integrated..

You will need to re-boot one or two times before you get a stable state.

If you check this out and it should solve your problem you have saved you all the troubles by sending you system back to the US for service...

  • 10. Re: panic screen, panic screen
    adinkrahene2 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I have tried that ObliTech. But the problem persists. I suppose an apple service is my best option now. I installed gfxstatus which enables me to restrict the gfx card to the intel. This works fine but I am unable to use external monitor but I need that more for multimedia applications and switching to the nvidia 330m causes the kernel panic

  • 11. Re: panic screen, panic screen
    ObliTech Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

The kernel panics are avoided when the Intel HD graphics are disabled on my system. My MacBook Pro 8.3 have the AMD Radeon HD 6770M. I have observed that the drivers used in 10.8.2 may cause kernel panics with the following graphic NVIDA GeForce graphics cards: GT 120, GT 320M, GT 330M, 9400M, and GT 9600. It is expected that either 10.8.3 or a update will fix this.

There is drivers for 10.8.2 at http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda-mac-driver.html , but I do not know if they solves the problem.

Booted the Lion 10.7 installation and discovered that the DEFAULT setting in Lion 10.7.x are => The "Automatic graphics switching" in the "Energy Saver" under "System Preferences" are de-selected...

That may explain both why I did not get kernel panics when using Lion AND why the battery life was so low..

As I did not have a single kernel panic when using Lion I will boot up Lion again - select the "Automatic graphics switching" and verify if the kernel panics return (with Lion) - as I expect there must have been a cause to the rather strange default setting that certainely would compromize battery life...

True. Let's hope something positive comes out of it. I am sending my unit to the US anyway and hopefully the guys at apple can get it sorted out.

So I went through the trouble of sending my unit to apple. Now the guy at the Genius Bar tells me they wouldn't bother to touch it because the unit had been worked on before. I am wondering if this is legit because obviously I am not asking it to be repaired under warranty. Help please anyone who knows anything about how these things work
