Of course. This is the meaning of backing up and restore.  Otherwise the restore from backup would solve the problem.

No, restore from backup not solved this problem - hided numbers not disapper (they store in backup copy with other settings and datas, I think). Just restor as a new iPhone will may help, but I don`t want to make all my settings manually and downloads again all applications and mediafiles.

You will not have to re-download your apps (if you do you will lose your apps data such a progress of a game ect.). You will sync them back as you will do with music and other media and info. You will lose Camera Roll (you have to import them before restore), Messages, resent calls, stored Wi-Fi passwords and of course you will have to organize and rearrange your apps. Doesn't worth it.

So what are we saying here.

No answer is productive so far.

Do you go to factory settings as if you were going to sell your phone, then enter all your data (phone numbers/email addresses) from new, but not through iTunes, as that will back up old data?

    Just spoken to Apple.

This is not a bug or a fault.

This is something that was installed on the iPhone for the people who delete phone numbers by accident, and need to have a back-up system.

Apple may release an update that gives you the option to fully delte numbers etc, but at the moment, all numbers you delete remain in the iPhone memory.

Hey I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having this problem, it's a big pain in the you know what, I HATE SEEING duplicates in my contacts for no reason. The "other" number never goes away no matter what I try and it's only when I'm composing a text/iMessage. Hope apple fixes this!

You see, the same ideas present in email application - once you sent email to someone, not stored in your contacts, you can see his name and email marked "other" in gray colour in some cases when you will fill "sent to" field, BUT (!!) this "other" email has a blue arrow at the right side - when you will press this arrow, you can store this email adress to your contacts, OR make a "Remove from recents" (see pictires below)

Why they not make blue arrow with possibility of permanent removing for "other" numbers in SMS applictaion? Who knows. mrg2507,can you ask Apple to make it?

Crap, I just imput the wrong number into the same contact name and texted.  Now I have 3 texts numbers for the same person, only one of which is correct.

I went to the apple store today and the only solution was factory reset, start brand new and save into icloud not itunes.  I think I will just text both wrong numbers and welcome them as new friends.

Make a new fake contact named something like "Do not use this" or @@@ or whatever you want and assign all wrong/old numbers. These numbers will still appears but you will not confused about the correct number.

And cheonweb,  again what you're saying does not work.  Even if you assign that number to a fake name, when you type the original contact name, all the numbers still poplulate, except 1 has the real name, and one has the completely foreign name that I saved the old number other.

Did you read my last post?

"These numbers will still appears but you will not confused about the correct number."

    Yes;

Even when you assign them to your "fake name" they still show up when you're typing the name of the contact you want to send a message to.

So now that contact shows the correct number, and also it shows the "fake name" with wrong contact as well.

Are you meaning that re assigning it is a way to differentiate which number is the correct one?

    Exactly.

    iraleventhal Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Ah, yes I understand what you mean now.  You're 100% correct.  Assigning them to a fake name will help to tell which number is the right one and which are the past, previous numbers.

I wish apple could fix this.

    I wish too.

    Sorry for my English.
