I will get you moved to the forum for Pages on iPads. This is the forum for Pages on Macs. Not very clear at the starting page.

The iOS versions of the iWork apps don't have an option for user-created templates like the Mac versions. However, you can create & save a document & use it like a template.

In spite of the latest updates Pages for iPad does not support:

    1) User templates

    2) Headers

    3) Footers

    4) Page numbers

and it is not compatible with Pages for OSX, a document cannot be edited alternatively on Mac and iPad without destroying headers and footers.

    - The Word export is far from perfect

    - Does not really support Page Layout mode (you cannot duplicate a page at least)

    - Does not have a multi-page overview

    - The spelling support of iOS and OSX is at the level of Apple Maps except 4-5 languages.

    - It takes a long time until it starts

INSTEAD, according to the latest updates:

    - It can do change tracking

    - Lock and unlock objects

    - Add reflections to shapes

    Dear Apple, please understand:

    - We like iPad and we wish to use it for real work.

    - We wish to have user templates, headers, footers and page numbers.

    - We do not expect all the features of Pages for OSX, but we do expect real compatibility.

    - We do not wish to switch back to Word for Windows unless you force us.

Please try to concentrate on real development not on unimportant changes like in the latest dissapointing update.

Fully second Ferenc's statement. The iPad is a great gadget but for most tasks you have to give way to some suboptimal and usually very limiting solution. Obviously, using templates and reusing old normal documents is not the same thing, otherwise people would not go through the hassle of setting up templates.

iPages should be Apple's show case of how an iPad can be used productively, instead it is still not much more than a gadget to play around with.

Just as Ferenc, I am not expecting that you offer all features that ms word or mac pages have to offer but it should be possible to continue work on a document I started in word and save it back without destroying the features pages does not offer. Hence, it should be possible to open from and save back to various cloud services such as Dropbox etc.

Have a look at some of the alternative apps around, they are doing a great job already (e.g. Notability, CloudOn etc). There is still a place for iPages but it has to get better.

There is an app for that: Template Saver (for Pages, Keynote, Numbers) enables you to do just that.

That works great, thanks! Adds the file to My Templates, so it's obviously a function they should expect

Templates can now be added to Pages in iOS.

    There's a guide document here:
