My elderly Macbook Pro (2007 15-inch Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM) has been having some troubles and as I need to keep it going for a few more months, I really need to reinstall Snow Leopard. However, while checking over my apps in the App Store, while most of them are marked "Installed", both Pages and Numbers are marked "Requires OS X v10.7".

However, my Mac is too old and doesn't meet the system requirements for either Lion or Mountain Lion, so while I don't in theory have a problem with upgrading the OS, I literally can't - so now I'm concerned that if I wipe my disk to reinstall Snow Leopard, I won't be able to install Pages and Numbers at all.

I'm backing everything up, obviously, but as I don't want to restore the whole system from a Time Machine backup (in case it reinstalls the original issues), I'm not sure whether I can then transfer Pages from either the Time Machine backup or my Carbon Copy Cloner bootable backup...

Can anyone confirm that I won't be able to download a version of Pages/Numbers I can run from the App Store? Or has any suggestions?

Thank you!

Pages and Numbers versions that are available as a download in the App Store requires OS X Mountain Lion or Lion, so you can't download them on your computer with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

However, if you make a Time Machine backup or a clone, you can restore an old version without any issue, so you can use them

You can do it. I recommend to use Time Machine to do it because it will be easier: go to Applications folder, open Time Machine and restore Pages and Numbers

Which system do you have now on your machine? For Snow Leopard you don't have to wipe the HD first.

I think that only works if you got Pages and Numbers from the App Store to begin with.  Time Machine won't automatically reinstall the frameworks that the DVD or Trial versions install outside the application packages.

Doing maintenance regulary with Onyx or in the Terminal usually solves problems.
