I do the same thing with new additions listed with cover art (sooo much easier to spot - especially in a large iTunes library)!
I got to the point where I actuall fedback a complaint which I have NEVER done before! I too will be refusing to make any further upgrades until I am absolutley convinced it is necessary. A hard lesson learned!
One other change that has stopped me from using iTunes Store is the removal of the advanced search facility. I need access to closed captions as my wife has no hearing, without closed captions, there is no point in purchasing the film or TV show from iTunes. The only way you COULD search in iTunes 10 was to use the advanced search and select 'Closed Captions' as a filter.
In the update Apple appears to have removed the advanced search facility so no one is able to find closed caption items at all! It is becoming a bit tedious sending emails to Apple and feeling that you are not being listened to on something as important as accessibility!

Absolutely gutted to have lost the artwork function... I have spent a lot of time and money building up my library (almost 2TB) and now iTunes 11 has taken away the artwork window it's really annoyed me to say the least.
I enjoyed flicking through my collection and coming across a film cover that looks interesting etc and now the only option seems to be to reinstall 10 but that's going to be much more trouble than it's worth.
I can also no longer add artwork (in the hope that they will SURELY bring it back in an update) because it crashes every time. I used to drag and drop into the window, which wasn't always amazing and I've always found artwork glitchy to say the least but for the majority of the time it's ok.
Now, I've attempted dragging and dropping (not that there is much of a space to drop into), the 'get info' option and adding an image, or even embedding the picture into the actual file but WHAT A PALAVA considering how easy it was before!
So now when I flick through my collection, it looks all disjointed, unorganised and takes me back to the half completed, shoddy looking Windows Media player on XP, which pushed me to iTunes in the first place.
FRIGGING MAD doesn't come close to what I think about these JAMES BLUNTS.
Please change it asap, but as usual this will go unnoticed and they will do as they wish.

Apple, please give us back artwork in list view!!

Please bring back the album artwork in the bottom-left corner.
Why does Apple keep removing things for no reason at all? I haven't moved to Mountain Lion yet for the sole reason that Apple removed features (RSS reader in Mail.app) that I actually use.

I wonder if Apple will ever read these discussion forms to hear the voices of their clients and what they like and want. Particularly, when it comes to Apple removing functions their loyal clients all knew and loved.
Mac users are like a cult, and I, like many others, are just being driven away from believing in the quality Mac products when they come out with new release after another that offers less benefit than disappointment. If they are not making quality products for their users, then who are they catering to? Very frustrated. If not a crappy iTunes release, it's a ****** iOS.... ugh!

Apple, please read this posts...
For heavy or "advanced" users of iTunes, the ability to manage metadata easily is critical... not being able to see and edit artwork song by song is extremely frustrating.
I will have to downgrade to 10.5 until you guys do something to cater to people who depend on iTunes to really manage their music libraries

First time posting here.
I am fustrated about losing the artwork in the song list as well. However this is the workaround i found that best works for me now:
Click on the "Album" tab does the trick. Just click on album tab, and find the album you are looking for, or simply just type in the search. Once you found the album you want, click on the album, you will be able to see all the songs in the album, and will be able to play the songs in the album with the nice UI.
The problem with the workaround will be not able to play multiple albums, but you can always add a playlist and play from playlist.
The only problem i found in the "Album" tab is I am not able to sort by Artist, albums by same artist are all scattered around...
Edit: Just found that the "Artists" works even better. You guys should try it.

Hmm - not really a workaround for the actual problem... which is the sudden and disastrous disappearance of the album art option from the bottom of the sidebar - where it made it easy to simply highlight a number of tracks and drag and drop artwork for them.... and allowed one to view either the track playing or simply the one selected.

+1 on the loss of the artwork pasting/dropping in list view... not to mention that pasting artwork into this now defunct window was the ONLY way that I have ever found to add secondary artwork to multiple songs simultaneously.
Of course you can still select multiple songs, invoke Get Info, then paste into the artwork window... but this always replaces the existing artwork, whereas the list view window would add the pasted artwork as secondary artwork. Now, the only option for adding secondary artwork to songs is to do it one song at a time via the artwork tab that is available only when a single song is selected when invoking Get Info.
Previously I had an easy choice of whether I wanted to paste artwork as a replacemement for existing artwork or as an addition to the existing. I frequently used both methods... now that flexibility appears to be gone. Knuckleheads!!!
P.S... if anyone knows another means to add secondary artwork to multiple songs simultaneously, please advise!

I never liked adding artwork to the bottom of the sidebar. That saved the artwork in iTunes database but not in the actual file. I keep an offsite backup of my library and I use Dropbox to copy to the offsite computer. If the artwork isn't imbedded, it isn't there on the other machine. I did use it to see that certain tracks have incorrect artwork, or no artwork. I also used it to compare artwork found from the iTunes store with artwork from external sources. I see no way to do that in iTunes 11.

I agree. I manage an extensive music library and the full featured list view is mandatory.

Just have to add my vote that I am also disappointed that the artwork is no longer visible in the Song listing. This is also how I identify my music. I can see the beats per minute in the song and how many times I skipped the stupid track, but not the artwork? Lame, Apple, lame.

Being able to scroll though the artwork really was iTunes strong point and I was toying with the idea to suggest it to Traktor because of its easiness of use.
Why fix it if it works?

Thankfully I had some old library backups on my computer, so I was able to go all the way back to 10.5. That is important as it was the last release before they took away the little arrows on the album art window. I have the ability to click through different album pics for a song. I had to update some playlists...but it was worth it to have that feature back as well as coverflow. Needless to say I will not be upgrading itunes anymore until they bring back what they took away!!!

this is the key missing thing.
How do you add mutiple or additional pieces of artwork to mutiple different tracks at the same time?
