Start by checking if sound is available when headphones are plugged in.

If it is, look down the headphone jack hole and see if there's a red light showing.

    Reset the PRAM.

If that does not work, check the audio output port if there is a red light.  That means the internal switch is stuck and needs to be tripped.  Inserting an earphone jack a few times may do it.  If not, insert a thin probe and jiggle it inside.

    Ciao.

The App I purchased only gives me sound using the earphones. I've tried put the earphones in and out a few times but still only get sound with the earphones.  It is funny though as I get sound when using other Apps.  I'm a bit scared to put something down the earphone hole/plug in case I damage the ipad.  Any other suggestions as I'm feeling very helpless and am very technically challenged.

You said iPAD.  That hardware is alien to me.  I do not have one and never used one.  I suggest that you post your issue on the iPad forum.  There you should find a knowledgeable audience.

Thanks for your help - I'll try the iPad forum.  Told you I was technically challenged as I thought I was on the iPad forum - lol
