Thank you for the quick reply. After doing more research I realized that I have a 3GS model and not a 3G. So according to the apple website the version I have which is 4.3.5 is the most current version for the 3GS. The link to that page is here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4204. I hope this helps others.

I don't think you should have checked your reply as solved. Such awards are intended for those who have either helped you or have solved your problem.
In fact a 3GS model may be updated to iOS 6:
4. iPad Support
a. Updating Your iOS to Version 6.0.x from iOS 5
Tap Settings > General > Software Update
If an update is available there will be an active Update button. If you are current,
then you will see a gray screen with a message saying your are up to date.
b. If you are still using iOS 4 — Updating your device to iOS 5 or later.
c. Resolving update problems

Thank you for your response. I now realize that the information I found was in fact out of date.
I am new to the community and didn't understand the award system. Thsnks again!

My 3Gs runs perfectly well on iOS6. Better than 4 and 5.
