While we're on that subject, ditto with the ability to pull a large-sized version of the artwork up. I wish people would stop bringing that up in this particular forum. Again, it may be great for some people, but it's not cover flow or a subsitute for cover flow. What I used was cover flow. It's really hard for me to believe it was removed because it was the whole point of iTunes as a music player. Meanwhile, visualizer and (incredibly) Genius survive. Mysterious!

Songbird has this ability (double click on the artwork in the bottom left).

The only thing i don't like about SB's mediaflow plugin is that its not "exactly" like CF.

Artwork is not flipable in a LP sense flip through kinda way. So albums dont collapse on themselves. Some may find that better in a sense. Others might still enjoy the original itunes CF way.

It does still have gradiant fill and mirror tho. So no issues there.

Wish one of you guys would try SB with the Mediaflow plugin and let me know what you think. just remember the max compat needs to be changed in order to install

This is really pity that you removed a feature that NOBODY has asked you to remove!? I liked it SO MUCH ......... and I now hate the new 11 version ONLY BECAUSE OF IT !!!!

    Hope it'll come back soon

Not sure if its ok to put links here but songbird is relatively easy to find its the top hit in any major search engine. You shouldn't have any touble finding that pink birdie lol!. And if you put "mediaflow plugin" in its the top result. You will need to extract the xpi as a zip file and then change the max compatibility. search for "max compatibility change" its also the top result. The instructions are the same for songbird as they are for firefox addons. Just make sure when you rezip the file you are absolutely sure you are using zip compression method.

I wish i could just plop up here a link to the changed xpi file but i dont want to cause a rucuss in this thread and possibly upset any devs anymore than we may already have.

Let me know if you need anymore help. I'll be more than happy to help you out.

ps: once you get it installed its just a question of restarting the app twice and then switching the default view to mediaflow.

I also recommend installing all of the suggested extensions at startup when prompted.

It goes beyond that. For example, the volume slider in iTunes and the On/Off Time Machine enable/disable switch are both elements that have physical counterparts in the real world. They act as metaphors that enable a user to quickly recognize function. They aid in the intuitive operation of the software.

A skeuomorphism is a visual flourish that does absolutely nothing whatsoever to enhance the function of the software. Torn paper on a calendar page or the greens and browns of the game centre are both elements that do not aid in function and either add or detract from the user experience depending on one's UI design preferences.

There are a few other useful tweaks in that as well, but it was worth the donation just to get rid of that hideous fake leather junk on Calendar. There should be a standard preference setting for this.

Thanks, DJ, I appreciate the alternatives, but not interested at the moment. Easier (for the time being) to stay with 10.7. Cover Flow is what I prefer.

I'm a [cough, cough] audiophile. In my main system, I use Pure Music in conjunction with iTunes and an external high-end DAC. Pure Music takes over the playback functions from iTunes and automatically switches sample rates and bit rates. In other words, I have some tracks that are 16/44.1, and other tracks that go all the way up to 24/196. Pure Music switches the OS's Midi and Sound control panels to the native bit and sample rates for best quality. Pure Music only works in conjunction with iTunes, so I'm stuck with iTunes as my media database app. 10.7 is a very good database app; iTunes 11 is clearly less good, so I have to stick with 10.7 for now. Other apps aren't in the running, which is why I'm ****** off about elimination of Cover Flow.

I'm also a little worried about the elimination of Gapless Playback. Although Gapless Playback didn't do much in normal use, Pure Music uses the Gapless tag to load multiple tracks into RAM for seemless playback of live albums.

Yes, the fan of classical music has lost a friend.  iTunes no longer keeps my classical albums organized.  I do not like iTunes 11.  I am sorry I upgraded.  I have purchased about $700 of music this year and last from the Apple iTunes store.  It is not fun anymore to sit in front of my computer and watch the detailed explanations of playlist artists, and the cover flow, and comparing different versions of the same symphony by different artists.  I have lost all of those fun things.  iTunes 11 is not like it used to be with iTunes 10.7.

What!!  Apple has eliminated gapless playback??  How can I ever expect to enjoy my Leonard Bernstein albums and other musical collections by Gardiner and many other great conductors that have detailed track notes?? Each musical passage is recorded as a separate track, with useful information about the track that I can study, but for musical listening, those tracks *need* to be played without a gap.

Apple is apparently interested mainly in top 40.  OK.  So they make money.  But I have spent about $700 in the last couple of years to purchase classical music from the iTunes store.  (I also buy Radiohead, Calexico, Alejandro Escovedo in the hundreds of dollars, but popular music doesn't run into the same playback/gapless problem).

I feel that Apple doesn't care about Classical music very much.

I just tried "PureMusic".  I purchased it, but it is just an add-on to iTunes 11 and doesn't repair the crummy loss of browser function that happens when you go from iTunes 10.7 to iTunes 11.  I will not upgrade to iTunes 11 on my other computers.  I wish I could downgrade on the one computer, my iMac, which is now screwed up and no longer as fun because of iTunes 11.
