I have almost the same problem.

Two Macs running 10.8.2. One is mine and one is my wife's Macbook. I'm running iCloud. My wife is not.

When I create an event in Calendar and invite anyone, the invitation is registered but not email is sent out! AGH!

Do we have a setting set wrong? Or has Apple introduced a bug?

Need a fix and soon, so I can rely on invitations again!

    Same problem. In brief:

Will not add event by double clicking ics. Will add if dragged into iCal.

Then clicking Accept or Decline does not send accept/decline email.

Just adding to the list so as to be notified of further progress. Thanks.

I have just solved the problem by switching iCloud OFF.

    1. Exported all my (iCloud) data

    2. Disabled all iCloud settings and signed out

    3. Imported data into apps (as local data)

    4. Reverted to using USB cable to sync between my iMac and iPhone

Now, all invitations are sent and received correctly.

That's a bold move prc62; and one that runs totally contrary to Apple forcing us to move all of our data into iCloud.

I was guessing that was the source of the problem; but with no other solution, I may just follow your example.

When I upgraded to Mountain Lion, it appears that a whole lot of my calendars were sucked into iCloud whether I wanted that or not.  I've always preferred to have my Calendars On My Mac; because there have been numerous other problems over the years when that was not the case.

BTW, for others with this problem.. with 10.8 (Mountain Lion) Calendar issues this message whenever I add an .ics-based event (more likely for me from a web page such as a webinar reminder, than an emailed event)...

"Calendar can't read this Calendar file. No events have been added to your calendar." If I open the .ics files in a text editor, they look perfectly normal.

I've been soooo disappointed in what's happened to Apple's core apps with each "improvement". Functionality disappears (iCal/Address Book), the app gets uglier and harder to use (again Calendar/Contacts), huge amounts of data couldn't be imported to the "upgraded" app from the previous version (Mail), and so on.

If Apple can't genuinely improve these apps, I wish they'd leave them alone instead of crippling them.

Obviously this rant isn't going just to you prc62.  It's a general problem.

Just adding another "me to" and wondering if anyone from Apple will address this.

In my case, .ics invites when opened, are opening random past meetings/appointments. Absolutely bizarre.

Another "ME TOO" rant. This is riduculous. I was told by support that the problem was on the exchange servers sending the request and they would have to change "their" settings. I'm a cosultant and work with dozens of companies...THIS IS NOT AN OPTION APPLE! Help:-)

I have the same problem. Really annoying: i do not have the opportunity to change my computer at work to an apple. I depend on proper calender-functionality. And to be honest: This is a basic functionality. So if the problem will not be sold next year I will have to switch to an other manufacturer. :-(

For whatever it's worth, I did come up with a partial fix to the problem I was having. My issue was iCal bringing up random past meeting invites instead of the current one when I clicked on it form mail. Instead of double-clicking on the ics file in the email, I detatched it (to my desktop) and then double-clicked the .ics file from there.

That would suggest to me that perhaps there's an issue with the way mail is handling temporary storage of attachments. But that's just a guess.

I tend to agree with your prognosis Steve - that's exactly how I get around the Calendar bug too. I guess a completely fresh OSX install should fix it?   Apart from that though, my Exchange mail and Calendar are working faultlessly.

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.8.2 and can intermitently import (ics) calendar invites. What is odd is that if you look at the "quick look" in mail, it looks perfect. Then when you go to import it, it picks a random date getnerally 1-2 years in the past and the text may completly unrealted or not complete. Has anyopne opened a ticket to resolve this? Please let me know becuase I'm about to and will refrrence back to it to help us both in resolution...

APPLE SUPPORT RESOLVED THE ISSUE FOR ME.  Your "time", "Time Zone" and or "Region" on your Mac, and or Icloud are out of sync (set differently). In my case, it was the region was set to cusotm verus United States. On your MAC click on the time, go to time date preferences. Click SHOW ALL, then go to LANGUAGE & TEXT, then REGION. Make sure it is set to your region and the right TIME ZONE. Then do like for Icloud. It fixed my issue and I hope this helps you too, becuase now I can send and recieve calendar invites that actually go to the right place on my calendar! Mery Christmas

    Hi all,

I fixed the issue. It seems that for what ever reason any old .ics files in your library folder > mail downloads tend to conflict with new ones. Thus, I simply went into the mail downloads folder and deleted all the old .ics files. After that everything workded perfectly.

One warning however, it seemed to take multiple trys to delete all the old .ics files. I moved them to the trash over and over again until the number of files indicated in the finder started to decrease until they were finally all gone. But as said, once gone all worls fine.

    Hope that works for everyone!

I can confirm that this repaired the issue for me.

Remove all .ics files from ~/Library/Mail Downloads/

The weird thing is all my old calendar attachments still worked.

APPLE, ANY THERE?!?!?!?? Isn't this support to be a SUPPORT from you guys as well?

I have the same problem but nothing worked.

    - Dragging didn't work

    - Deleting the ics files from the mail folder didn't work

    - Saving to desktop didn't work

Quick look did show me the invite, but it's impossible to see the contents, get an update if it moves date, can't confirm. So almost useless.

    Any suggestions more than welcome.
