You do not need to start a new thread every time you post.
You appear to be using a Layout template (which has no default text area) instead of a Word processing template. Start a new WP template from the Template chooser (they are listed in the sidebar) and paste into that.
Click inside the Textbox > command a (select all) > Copy > click into the main text area > Paste

Thank you for this i really appreciate your help
My issue now is i have a completed report and when i try and copy the obects within the report over to a new word processing document in order to use the footnote i loose all of the formating in the new document any further advice?
You should not lose any text formatting.
Are you talking about layout of objects etc? Because you will have to lay that out again for the new document.
Only you know what layout it is you want, but I suggest making all objects such as tables, images, charts and textboxes inline, ie pasted into the text, so that you can select it all together and objects stay with their associated text.
