I bought a brand new mac yesterday, but nobody told me to turn on the firewall, so I was looking at facebook and downloading some skype features...today I bought the virus barrier which came with a panda antivirus for the parallel desktop in my mac, but once I installed it the parallel desktop stopped working properly...could it be some bad virus or something or can I just relax and get my mac to some technician to re-install that future to me?

thanks for the help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

Did you install the antivirus on Windows or OS X? If you've installed it in OS X, uninstall it. See > http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg

That's because you don't need to, and should not, turn on the firewall.

    I bought the virus barrier

You are starting off on the wrong foot. "Virus Barrier" is useless garbage. You don't need any anti-malware protection beyond what's included in OS X. Your Windows installation has the same need for that protection as any other Windows installation, but that's within Windows.

Linc Davis, can you explain why we shouldn't turn on the firewall?

Can't you use the Windows in Paralels to access the internet and download there which will be on the Windows OS and then you can just install within Windows.

For problems with Parallels, you should go to Parallels tech support or its user forums. I don't use it and know almost nothing about it.

Unless you already put valuable and irreplaceable stuff in there (BAAAD move), perhaps the quickest relief can be obtained by simply trashing that VM and creating a new WinXP instance. Note that if you start adding stuff that requires more processing, like antivirus, etc., you will probably have to  assign more resources to the VM. Like more RAM, processor cores, virtual disk space, etc.
