Use caution if you decide to upgrade Pages. The current version of Pages '09 requires 10.7.4 at a minimum. To continue using OS X 10.6 you would have to find an earlier version of Pages '09, which might be a tricky proposition. (One place to look would be Amazon, for a DVD iWork package version.)
A full upgrade to Mountain Lion would require that you check your hardware compatibility:
OS X Mountain Lion system requirements
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
Your problem with Pages '08 may only be that it needs a Software Update, from the Apple Menu.
Worth a try.
I'd be guessing at this point, so all I can say is that you don't have much to lose. Might as well try a reinstall.
The faint images is the part that really throws me. No text is sometimes a font problem. A little system maintnenance might be worthwhile. Have you Restarted lately? Repaired Permissions? Checked your fonts with Font Book?
I've tried changing the font, I've tried using a recent project and updating it, I've tried to use a new template but all those come up with faint images where the pictures are to be installed. I copied pics into the spaces and they are still faint. The text boxes seem to be non-existant and even when I create one and try to type in it, there is no text appearing, which makes it a tad difficult!!!! I have restarted my computer - is this what you mean by restarted?? I don't know what Repaired Permissions are and I have tried to change fonts, as well as colours. Everything appears to be light mauve, as though it's washed out.
If I re-install, how do I do that??? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm a computer user that clicks and goes, and doesn't know much else!!!
Thanks for all your help.
