MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

    Well if you don't have the image retention problem right now you can at least test it out for a couple of days.

     

    Right now I feel mixed about it. I have a new rMBP since two days which have the LG display. Can't complain right now since it have no IR at all. I do like the laptop a lot actualy and it would cost me to send it back and select another laptop that can also have it share of problem too.

     

    At least this IR problem is know by Apple, supported by a lot of people right now and protected by the Apple warranty. Most people have their screen replaced when they make an appointment at a Genius Bar and I feel confident in Apple warranty and mostly im pretty sure LG has been working hard to get everything back in track in the production line. So we are not sure if our latest panel are faulty. Still hard to take the guess of paying 2K+ for a random hardware.

     

    If i have no sight of IR after 10 days, I will probably give a try and keep the LG display..... Still not sure yet, mixed feeling..

    Just received my 5th rMBP -- another LG. 

     

    And back it goes.  This is incredibly frustrating.  For this amount of money, I refuse to settle with IR.  All I want is a Samsung screen!  Does anyone have any advice as to how to make that happen?  I'm getting real tired of the lottery...

    Well once you get a Samsung, make sure it doesn't come with any stuck or broken pixels...

    LOL!!!  OMG....that is SO funny.  Sorry chief. I feel for you. I really, really want to buy one, but I just can't take that chance.  Seeing comments like yours make it slightly easier.

    What are you doing. You return any rMBP within 14 days and order a new one when refund is made ?

    On a more serious note, I think I'll avoid this whole deal and just pick up a Thunderbolt display for my PC laptop.

    No defect of any kind detected to date on this LG screen... just beautiful.

    I did not run the multiple black/white squares test in case this would somehow trigger or accelerate the potential IR defect. With AppleCare why should I worry?

    Truly, people always sees what they seek.

    Problems are always there whenever you look at them.

     

    If your unit has an issue that affects your usage, such as faulty display, color issues, etc, go to the Apple store and have it fixed or replaced.

    If it does not affect you and your usage, like an IR that appears for about 10 minutes in a gray background when you're idle, why be worried with it? Don't keep looking for the problem! Probably the ghosting image won't show up to you during your heavy usage.

     

    Again, if it affects your usage, have it replaced or fixed.

    If not, be content, see it's beauty and help to you, then find happiness.

    As simple as that.

     

    Everything has it's own flaw if we choose to look at them, even this great feat of technology and engineering in a device.

    You need to worry because there are a number of people with Applecare who have not been able to get their screens or entire units replaced when it is affecting their work, if Apple decides that THEY think it is not a big enough problem and it falls within the specs of what THEY decide is acceptable. And too bad for you.

    I don't agree with you. I used my rMBP everyday without discovering any IR. After a normal use of that I found IR when the scene switched to grey background. It happaned two months after the buy. It was terrible view, I never seen before that. I never sought IR...

    To go off what SitaCH said they will also do anything they can do push it down the road. I have posted before in this thread about my issues and finally getting a Samsung, but I never posted the full story of my last replacement because I thought it wasn't worth it and they would fix this, and who cares I got a Samsung. But it seems that they really don't care and that my story may be more along the lines of a normal experience with this then an outlier, so I don't feel so bad about sharing it now.

     

    In my experience after the 3rd replacement I got a call from the store manager that did more to confuse me then to calm my fears. He was saying they would honor my warranty, but they wouldn't replace the screen again, that yes the tech on the floor had seen it, but he hadn't. Yes it wasn't with in spec, but it was within spec. The call last 30 minutes and ended with me being highly confused, and agitated.

     

    The next day when I went in I showed up for my appointment early. The genius came out on time and greeted me, told me my options. I asked if I could see the test ran while the thing was running hot, he said he would have to ask. He went in the back and did not come back out for an hour. He then ran the test in front of me. It passed, though I could see a little IR, but he said that was with in spec, but he kind of got what I was talking about and why I was worried it would end up like the last three. He then went back into the back for another hour. Finally bringing out the manager, a different one from the night before, who gave me the same double talk.

     

    At one point he said "We wont do any more work on this machine." As in no more work no matter if it was another problem or not. Which of course I responded with "So your not going to honor my warranty?!" In a very agitated and edging on angry voice. He then asked me to calm down or leave.

     

    Then that is when I realized they where purposely giving me the run around, and making me wait as long as possible so they could get me riled up and deny me service. I just kind of gave up at that point and agreed to one last swap out, though I had to pay for the hardrive upgrade so I could do it in house (I didn't want to wait another 2 blasted weeks for the replacement to come in). Luckly I got a Samsung, and my story ended with a happy note. But I can only image what would have happened if I had gotten another LG and how far up the preverbal creek I would have been with out a paddle…

     

    As I have said before I have been using Apple computers sense I first learned how to use a keyboard, and I am now making the move to none Apple computers running Ubuntu and Windows, compteltly redoing my work flow in the process... Its a gaint pain in the butt, but after this I feel like I don't have a choice. There is no point to paying more for an Apple if I can expect the same level of quality control from other companies for way cheaper. Its just not worth it...

     

    In addition to reponsed to those saying we are just seeking it out, I found the IR before I foudn this thread also...

    Because I can't go through something like that everytime I buy a new computer. Its not wortht the time. I might as well go get another computer with similiar specs for cheaper, because if Apple's not going to stand behind then why pay more for something I can get for cheaper. Not to mention the principle of the thing.

     

    Also if I switch over to a 'Windows' based manufacture and they treat me poorly, I just have to go out and buy another 'Windows' computer and install Ubuntu on it. I don't end up having to change my work flow again and waste even more time because of change of OS.

    I can understand that. Good luck with your switchover. I'm in the opposite situation. I had just upgraded to CS6 (they give a big discount to keep up with upgrades) in anticipation of getting a rMBP, and then I discovered this thread. I decided to wait and see if they fix it, and if my 2008 MBP fails in the meantime I'll probably get a MBA. I can't afford to rebuy all my software.

     

    For everybody that posts on here there are probably 10 more people out there with the same problem not posting. It's like roaches in the kitchen, there's ten more you don't see.
