7) Go to iTunes in your Mac and open the list of App you have and delete the PodCasts app in the list and delete the Podcasts app in your devices.
The fix for the Podcasts app is to delete the Podcasts app.
That was the only conclusion I could come to as well.

This works if you download only from your Mac/iTunes and then synce to the phone. But, if you want to download using the phone, this doesn't work because the Music app no longer allows podcasts to be downloaded (you get an error and have to use the podcasts app to download). So, if you're like me and want to download a podcast during the day to listen to on the ride home from work (and can't use your personal laptop at work to download), then you're out of luck. I really want to 'cut the cord' so to speak and use the phone for downloading/managing podcasts, but as we already know...the app stinks for that! Thanks for the solution, I hope it helps lots of people, but I'm still stuck. :-(

This also does not restore the ability to add podcasts to music playlists - a function that I used on a daily basis to mix spoken word audio. (Podcasts, audiobooks, MP3s) I often listen to these playlists outdoors in a cold climate and cannot unbundle myself to switch between apps. Thanks Apple, for making things more difficult!
I'm getting tired of ripping all my podcasts into AAC or MP3 in order to accomplish an operation that used to be effortless and if there is not an official fix for this by the time I receive my bonus in February, it is going toward an Android phone! (I've already purchased an S3 for my wife for Christmas to compare.)
