That should not happen on a new MacBook Pro. (But it is)
You may need to reinstall iMovie, or reinstall OSX, since if both of those are working correctly, this all works.
However, before I recommend brain surgery, I would suggest breaking this task into parts.
1) Try SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in Medium size. Does that get to end of job?
2) Try Share/Export Movie also in Large, 720P and 1080P sizes. Do they all finish?
3) Now, go to the YouTube site in a web browser like Safari. Upload your movie to youtube through the browser. Use the 1080P version or the largest version that finished above. Does that finish OK?
If all that works, there is no reason your Share to YouTube should not be able to work.
Well, there is one thing. When you enter your YouTube ID and password in iMovie, be sure to use your GMail email address and your GMail password. It used to be that YouTube had separate screen names and passwords from GMail, but now everything is linked to your GMail account. Make sure you are using the GMail signin and try the SHARE/YOUTUBE again.
