Once you purchase the app via the Mac App Store, you can download it as many times as necessary, so you could try deleting your current Pages file and re-downloading it. That should get you the latest version.

Thanks Jerrold, but without being able to see my purchase of Pages in the App Store, I'm hesitant to delete it on a gamble that the App Store will at some stage see pages gone off the iMac & then re-offer to put it back. Could there be a preference that the App Store is not showing all prior purchases?

The only reason I can think of for your prior purchases not being listed is that you have not logged into the App Store with the same credentials that you used when you purchased the app. It's not unusual to have multiple Apple IDs and to mix them up.

Thanks again Jerry, but no go there either. The one & the same ID since the birth of iTunes. Thanks for your input

FYI for future trouble shooting users that land here. I've stumbled across a solution to my own issue that started this query in the 1st place.
Somewhere along the way in all the previous updates Apple had auto hidden some old OS X updates & specifically my Pages purchase from the App store. For me opening the App application either via the Dock, the Apple or in finder lists (& still does) a bunch of old purchased apps that have a status button of download or greyed out as installed. Ironically OS X Mountain Lion has the download button active, though the system is running said OS X.
Anyhoo a quick click on the download (is like a do not touch sticker hey!) & a pop up will say it's already installed do I really want to download again. Phew no thank you. . . why it's not greyed out as installed already is grrrr. Anyway get to the point already . . . the App store in the "Featured" window welcomes me with my name right there in the quick links window, but guess what I'm actually not logged in.
Clicking on "Account" below your App user name prompts a new Apple ID/Password window login. Well lo & behold . . . "Hidden Apps" treasure. I kid you not, OS X Mountain Lion, Lion (from Aug 2011), Pages (2011) & a bunch of others were all sitting there hidden, all with option to unhide them. How did they become hidden?
Just because I want to learn why, & help others, I for the life of me I cannot revert them back to hidden. So I now have a bigger purchased list of Apps all with active "Download" buttons then when clicked error anyways, because they are to old or not available in the App store anymore.
All in all I got Pages back & the latest version with iCloud compatibility. . . Yay! Hope this helps someone that has lost a past purchased App out of the store.
