I just got USB Superdrive as my internal does not work and as I was searching in fo, Superdrive not working, I discover this. Is there any workaround will it not work even if I remove the internal? This is very disappointing :-(

Well I did try after all, telling myself that its not (or should not) be more dangerous than changing the CSS of some wordpress theme via FTP....
Unfortunately I cannot save the file and cannot get around permission issue..
I also found this, which I could not complete for the very same reason, but it may be useful to someone else
I personally think it makes a lot of sense....
in the meantime, any advice for slick but easy/robust external drive ?
Feelixx, I've always like Lacie products, this one looks neat and it's on $49 http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10484
OWC has some good external optical drives http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/

guys thanx. I ve always used Lacie for any external too. This time not sure how I just walked by the store and got this. I am not sure I can get OWC easily over here - they are also pricy arent they?. Thanx for New Egg link..
by the way
I got it working
If anyone gets here with the same issue I did follow the instruction from the link above
Look for the correct file
copy it to desktop
move original in new folder (safe)
change all instances of word internal to external. I had 5. There may be between 4 to 6 istances depending on your System. I run 10.8.2
Put back file into correct directory 'A'
Make sure you delete the file alias which sits outside folde 'A' and replace it with new alias of the corrected file
This solution is for Imac with internal optical drives that dont work.
Ah, while I am here, just a little reminder, if your disk gets stuck in the drive because the system will not recognise the device itself, restart holding OPT and press EJECT...at list you know the problem is not a faulty drive and you can get on with the above procedure
Pls Note this is the first time I patched (forgive me if its not the right use of the word) and is dead easy. Anyone can do it, carefully
Now I am in two minds where to keep the Superdrive or not. Its cute but has all the drawbacks of a slot drive...
On the first disk it mounted the noise was sooooo loud it was mental. I used VCL. Second and third dvd made less noise. With Apple DVD noise is reasonable. What shall I dooo? Keep it now?
and last but not least...
