I know this is revisiting a dead topic and beating a dead horse but I am frustrated and need to ask.

I have a late 2006 Macbook. A1181.

I got it secondhand and there is no Applecare.  The previous owner was pretty oblivious to the issues it was having...or at least he didn't truly know the causes.  He told me the battery was dead and no longer charged and the trackpad was giving him "issues" so he used an external mouse.

As soon as I got it home I pulled the battery to have a look and sure enough the battery was swollen, on both sides.

I ordered a replacement aftermarket battery (which has a separate issue of not showing as present but I figure that's because it is aftermarket) and installed it.  The swollen battery is gone but I still seem to have the same problem with my trackpad.  It clicks and holds when I click the button.  If I firmly double click it goes away but in order to use it I have to finagle it around.  It makes the laptop functional but frustratingly so.

The nearest Apple store is 1.5 hours away so it's not really an option.  Besides, I don't have Applecare for it.

Any ideas, aside from replacing the top?
