Dec 13, 2012 7:09 AM in response to OBEYxOFWGKTAby varjak paw,You cannot change the serial number of the iPhone. If the number shown electronically doesn't match the number on the case, the most likely scenario is that some unauthorized shop, or the previous owner, replaced the logic board. Whether you can activate the iPhone to your Sprint account in such a circumstance I can't say; you'll need to contact Sprint.
This forum is for the iPad, by the way.
Regards.

Dec 13, 2012 2:47 PM in response to OBEYxOFWGKTAby imobl,If the eBay listing did not say that the iPhone had a bad esn,
open a complaint with eBay to get your money back. Try contacting
the seller first, but don't let the seller delay you so that the time
limits for refund run out.
Bad esn is generally a carrier locking the phone from their network due
to reported loss or theft or failure to pay the bill. You can also get
bad esn as varjak paw states above.
You could try contacting Sprint to see if there is anything you can
do to clear the esn.
