Does anyone know if and when True Blood Season 5 will be available for download in iTunes?  Hopefully not after the season is wrapped up!

When it is released by HBO for Apple to sell.

According to HBO, it was Apple's decision to releas True Blood 12 months after airing in the United States. They sell episodes the day after airing in other countries. Checkout iTunes' UK and Australian stores, and you'll see.

More likely HBO does not want it released on U.S. iTunes before it is released on DVD (Feb 2013).

Apple gains nothing by not releasing it when it is available from HBO.

And HBO releases it to Apple but Apple says not for another 12 months?

    Extremely unlikely.

It's also not available from Amazon instant video.

I agree Chris, the Content Vendors control when itunes releases content. It is also different in different countries as TV Networks want to sell to other networks who will not allow it to go onto the local itunes store until it has screened on the TV Network.

The Networks have not worked out that we are now a global community and have not updated there antiquated distribution practices

Agreed Chris. It doesn't seem likely. But it is what I was told when I asked HBO about it.  Either Apple or HBO are lying, since two conflicting stories cannot both be true.  HBO is the more likely suspect, given their past history.

But either way, the fact remains that the rest of the world is given preferential treatment over the market that created the show in the first place. And this is wrong.

    I doubt anyone is "lying".

Just that whoever at HBO said this doesn't really know what they are talking about.
