Without modifying the connector, a Thunderbolt cable cannot be inserted incorrectly. Are you using an Apple branded cable?

"Without modifying the connector, a Thunderbolt cable cannot be inserted incorrectly."
This is not a true statement, which was the point of my post. Unlike USB, firewire, etc, a thunderbolt cable CAN be inserted incorrectly with minimal effort. I tried to make it clear, I have been doing this for a very long time and this is what really happened.
The cable I'm refering to is built into my Thunderbolt display and I'm connecting to an 11" macbook air. I didn't hammer the cable into the port. I inserted the cable with normal pressure and at a normal angle.
I'm just trying to give everyone a heads up to a possible problem. If your display, or other thunderbolt peripheral doesn't work, here's one more thing to troubleshoot.

The Thunderbolt connector is based on the Mini DisplayPort. Just like the Mini DisplayPort connector, two edges of the Thunderbolt connector and receptacle are chamfered. This makes it similar to any other connector (i.e. USB) where it can only be put in one direction. I would recommend inspecting your cable and receptacle for defects, or, if possible, take your system to an Apple Store where they can inspect your system for defects.

Why do you keep implying that I'm wrong or don't know what I'm talking about? There is nothing you have said that I don't already know.
I know how plugs work and how to plug them and how they're designed. The thunderbolt port is NOT as assymetrical as a usb port or firewire port, and a thunderbolt cable CAN be plugged in incorrectly.
To insist that what I'm saying can't happen is nonsensical and counter-productive to anyone who may have the same issue.

Is it possible for you to post pictures of the cable connected in both orientations?
