Q: Mini 2012 hdmi flicker problems now MUCH WORSE after EFI update!

I had, like so many others, flicker problems with hdmi in the 2012 Mac Mini, but no worse than I could bear it. My setup is: Mac Mini->Yamaha RX-810 receiver->Pioneer TV (+ Panasonic proejctor in another room).

Now, however, after the EFI update 1.7 which would address just that, I have a much worse problem. Now the tv screen loses sync about every 10 seconds instead of just once, randomly, every other day.

However, when I connect directly to the TV, it works just fine. Still, it is NOT a receiver problem. All other devices I have works perfectly, all hdmi ports and all cables are fine.

I would rather roll back the EFI to how it was before, because it was so much better than this… but is that even possible?

I absolutely love my new Mini but this really depresses me… as I can only use it for music, not for tv and films. I am desperate for a solution!

I know of no way to do this, but Apple Store might be able to do it.

Have you contacted Apple to report the issue either direct

via phone support or bug report (https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn)?

Also, something you may try that may or may not

help.  Power everything down.  Then power up

the TV and wait until it is ready.  Then power up

the receiver and wait until it is ready.  Then boot the

    Mini.

With my Yamaha RX-V467, if I don't follow that sequence,

audio always gets muxed up and occasionally will get video

    issues.

If this power up sequence tself does not help, repeat the

sequence but when booting the Mini do a PRAM reset

None of this may help and you may have a hardware issue

or the bug is still not really fixed.

Another option may be to just try reapplying the update.

Thank you so much, fellow Yamaha-owner… the PRAM reset did the trick for me! The blinking every 10 seconds is gone.

Your welcome.  Hope that the situation lasts.  You may

however want to observe the start up sequence.  Te biggest

problem I have by not following it is getting limited to only 2

channel audio.  If I always follow the sequence, it will allow

me to pass through Dolby and DTS to the reciever for decoding.

    Thanks, I will!

What are your experience with switching between devices and hdmi ports, how often do you have to reboot the Mini (plus receiver/tv)? Not every time, I hope..?
