Q: iPhone won't connect to WiFi

You posted to a thread on a different subject, so few people will notice your post; it would be better to start your own thread about ad hoc networking.

In my experience an ad hoc connection does not set the "connected" icon, but still works.

So, how would I know if it is working?

If you can transfer data. The only thing I use ad hoc for is getting images off an eye-fi card in my DSLR. it just works.

I'm wondering about how to know if it's connecting to the internet via wifi.  Different from what you are doing.

I don't think you should be using ad hoc networking for the situation you describe. Why don't you just use your home WiFi network?

Oh, I didn't know that. Please say more about this; why not? Is it not secure? 

Sometimes, I like to play Words with Friends and check my email from my cell, esp at night. I got used to it because I had access to my neighbor's wifi. I don't have that any longer, so I'm missing it. Not a big deal, but a convenience.

Actually, I don't have a home WiFi network, only the ad hoc. I thought about buying an Air Express, but thought that ad hoc would save some $.

Ad hoc is very tempermental; I think some sort or router is a better solution. The airport express is an excellent choice, but there are plenty of less expensive routers available.

Still not able to connect to wifi anywhere, Safeway, Starbucks, etc and of course home, all apps work but not connected to wifi, so therefore it will be charged to my airtime on my iPhone cell bill. Only connects if I plug it directly to my computer

Thank you for this info!   Since I last wrote, I was perusing my FB page and a friend of mine posted that she has a router to give away, and would anyone want it. Very cool. Sooo, it looks like tomorrow, I will have a Linksys by Cisco, model WRT320N-RM. I called her and she said that it works fine. They've been running multiple Macs, and streaming Netflix without any problems. They purchased a Tivo, and noticed that the addition is too much for the router to handle, so they upgraded to a dual-channel router. Synchronicity!!

If you can't connect to WiFi anywhere, first try Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings. If that does not resolve the problem see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559. If none of those instructions solve the problem your phone is broken, and you will have to get it replaced by Apple. If it is in warranty it will not cost anything.

My wifi is now connecting this morning, I did not have to do anything to router or my iPhone . So I'm guessing it must have been a bell communication glitch , just happy it's working and finding the wifi properly :)

Ok this is really weird wifi connection dropped again , I walk to my basement were my router is, get about 5 feet away and it connects again, I have walked upstairs now and it has disconnected grrr
