Q: iPhone won't connect to WiFi

My iPhone won't log onto my home or work WiFi. It recognizes them and I have put in the correct passwords but I just get an alert saying "Unable to join the network...".

I can't find any info on this. Any clues?

The phone connects via 3G

PowerBook G4, iPhone

The router should be in central location in the home. I would suggest moving the router to the main floor, and out of the basement where there's plenty of possible interference.

The basic problem is with the iPhone wifi design. Such is a substandard design which means the transmitter (router) should be a higher quality transmitter -- which usually means more expensive.

The closer one is to the transmitter (router) the better as the iPhone antenna design or amp design is substandard (educated guess).  That said, the problem could be a quality control issue with manufacturing.

Difficult to know without actually taking the units apart and doing a design analaysis.

You can make your wifi connection more stable by entering a DNS address manually.  You can typically get the DNS address (one of them, your ISP likely has 2 or 3) by accessing your router and viewing a configuration page.

The fix is to keep taking sending your iPhones back to Apple until you get one that works.  Apparently some of the iPhone wifi hardware actually work so if you keep sending them back eventually you will get one that works.  Apple will try to convience you that the problem is everything but their phone.  Do not believe it.

I have tested three diffent phones on the same system, Samsung, Motorola Droid, and iPhone 4 and only the iPhone 4 has unacceptable performance over WiFi.

And I was able to modify my iPhone to substantially increase and improve its wifi performance.  So I am 99.9% confident the issue is hardware related although they could have some software issues also.

Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but Cox Cable changes its router address occassionally to be a pain in the *** and keep people from taking advantage of addresses.

This helped me after I told my iPhone to forget a device, and wanted it back again.  http://www.cultofmac.com/181700/forget-a-bluetooth-device-on-your-iphone-or-ipad -then-find-it-again-ios-tips/

Had the same issues all of you and the solution is simple.  Under wifi where it says choose a network, click other and type in the name of yours example linksys, click Join and it will sync up automatically.  Hope this works for everyone.

My iPhone 4S has been updated, restored, reset network settings and still can't connect to a wifi. I have spent over 6 days struggling with techs and sprint. Idk what else to do other than take it to a apple store which is over a hour away from where I stay.. I think it's time to make that trip.. Any other suggestions that aren't on this page. I've tried them all!!!

i had this problem aswell, it was connected when u went into your wifi settings but not showing up on your screen that your connect.

first thing to do go in to wifi settings click the blue arrow beside yout wifi name and click on forget this network.

second thing to do is knock of your wifi for 10 seconds and search for your wifi name and reconnect again and then it should work.

Sadly, that did not work at all.  It is highly unfortunate that the large numbers of people are having these issues and we have not heard from Apple officially on this.  It speaks volumes as a company to have 'users' and 'customers' on forums self-medicating what appears to be a growing widespread problem with their devices.

I agree, I can't get any help from Appple or Sprint Technocal Support. I've hade this iPhone 4S almost a year and never had a wifi problem till December 26. Since then I can't get a answer or a decent solution from the company itself!!!!

Is the problem with one WiFi network, or all WiFi networks? If it is all you probably have a hardware problem. If it is just one start by rebooting your router by turning it off for 15-30 seconds.

My phone won't connect to any wifi and the sprint Internet is so slow it quits before completely loading. My calls are dropping more often than they use to especially in places I'm suppose to have great service!!!!

It sounds like your phone is broken.
