iPhone 5 wifi issues

    That's where the OTA error could be happening if wifi drops. I tried to do the update over LTE but it says I need wifi.

    Great news guys! Hope it works out. Appears this was just for IP5 and iPad mini ??????? Although regular iPads and some iP4s's are having the same issues although not as bad apparently. Guess this means iOS6.1 most likely will be after the holidays or into 2013 as some are saying. I figured surely it would release before Christmas with all the new iDevices that will be getting unwrapped and cannot connect to WIFI.. Guess iOS6.0.2 was the saving grace for those folks. Hope no one gets a regular iPad for Christmas, they could be stuck with an expensive digital picture frame for a few months.

     

    Maybe tomorrow iOS 6.0.3 for iPads and iPhone 4s will release

    First, thank you for the information (which I just confirmed).  Where does that leave us that have non-working iPhone 4s?  Apple not longer will support these phones?  I do believe I will be going to my local Apple Store and screaming for my money back.  This is absolutely incredible.

    It could also be something with my setting though. I did enable iTunes updates via cellular, with no success so I'm not sure myself.

    Tried it.  Can't do it.  Need wi-fi.  I will have to wait until I go home

    Sorry to hear that, Steph - hope it's worth the wait!

     

    As luck would have it, now that I finally have the iOS 6.0.2 update, my internet is acting wonky overall. I'm not even getting 5Mbps on my iMac. I usually get at least 10. Oh well, based on my limited test downloading a podcast, at least it seems better.

    Me too!  It will be sooooooo nice not to stress about my data plan exceeding the limit!

    Status Update: Using iPhone 5 and iOS 6.0.2

     

    The good news: When the wi-fi signal is strong, iPhone 5 connects to wi-fi very quickly and maintains the signal. I notice that wi-fi no longers hangs and idles like before.

     

    The bad news:

     

    1) The wi-fi strength is not nearly as good as any other iPhone I've owned (all of them). With 6.0.2, and a weak connection, the iPhone will quickly toggle and alternate between 4G and the Wi-Fi indicator. I've never seen it do this before. The apps I tried hang.

     

    2) When I start with a good wi-fi indicator and move just beyond the (poor) range, the wi-fi indicator sticks at 2 bars and then my apps hang. I cannot figure out how to get it to reconnect without shutting off the phone.

     

    So, when the strength is good wi-fi is working much better. When the strength detoriates or is marginal, network apps hang.

     

    I wish this solved the problem but it appears to have just changed the behavior.

    I don't know if that's the case, Bob. My guess - and I'm trying to be optimistic - is that since the iPhone 5 is the newest and getting the most attention, they decided to quick get an update out to address this specificially and HOPEFULLY they'll have a full fix when they release 6.1 - for all devices.

    My iPhone 5's WiFi has been working fine since I got a replacement phone, though it did seem a bit slow sometimes.   But I put 6.0.2 on anyway, and my speed test results have bumped up by 25% or so.  Maybe just a coincidence, but if not, a nice bonus.

     

    One thing that occurred to me earlier -- maybe Apple was tight-lipped about the bug because of security implications?

    I'm getting slightly faster speeds using SpeedTest but I updated a few apps., loaded a fresh page in Safari, did a search & loaded a page in the Wiki app. and the loads were instant.  Instant!  The six apps. to be updated did so in less than 30 seconds - all six!  Much, much better.  This is what I expect from iPhone 5.  It's been a long twelve weeks and I'm still angry that I devoted so much time to reading all these pages, replaced several iPhones and did so much tinkering with the device & modem/touter for this issue (not to mention Apple's silence on the matter) but I'm at least relieved that the WiFi issue now appears to be fixed on iPhone 5.

    Just swapped out for yet another iPhone 4s with the same exact results.  No wifi connectivity.  No support from Apple, no support from my carrier.  Apple has failed, they have the worst customer service I have ever seen.  No offer of support, no potential to update and fix the problem, not one person in support will even attempt a fix.  What a loser company.
