Q: New iMac Aperture 3 refuses to run

Why is it the ONLY app that won't run on my new iMac is an Apple pro app?

It asks for a serial number, I put in my Aperture 3 serial number then it asks for the 'original' serial number since it's an upgrade (why is won't validate a serial number that's been used for a couple of years now is well beyond my ability to understand) so I put in the "original' serial number (version 1 i think) and it says it's invalid but it is the original serial number. If it wants the aperture 2 number then a) it should ask for it and b) I don't have it. I have the original and the upgrade.

So now I have work to do and a program that won't run. Thanks Apple. Merry Christmas.

Any solutions?

Or is it time to buy lightroom and try to figure out a way to get my 1000's of pics out of Aperture databases?

Oh, and iPhoto says it can't (won't) open any of the Aperture databases because I need to open them in Aperture 3.3 even though I've been running 3.4.3.

It seems totally screwed up.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the rant but Apple products are supposed to work - they always used to at least. Never had this kind of problem upgrading to a new mac ever.

Thanks, Frank, but I went that route yesterday. I have both my order_acknolwedgement and shipping_notification for Aperture 1.5 (Feb 2007) and Apple will NOT take those as proof of purchase! It seems you have to keep the original invoice. Who keeps invoices for 5 years?

When I try to go to Apple order services (since I do have an order number), all I get is "Apple Order Services Are Busy Try Again Later" (yesterday and today).

I have never had such trouble getting a legitimate copy of software to work. I founded and grew a software company of my own with over 250,000 users and we'd be out of business treating legitimate customers this way.

I'll pay 150 for LIghtroom 4 and all the hassle of moving over to it rather than give Apple an unneccessary additional 79 dollars to get my bought and paid for copy of Aperture to work.

I would try calling AppleCare. I believe they can help with these kinds of issues.
