I just downloaded a sample of the book in question. The description states it is 496 pages in print version. I opened the sample and swiped slowly along the right side. It displayed the page numbers as I went. So the answer to your question is, yes, page numbers can be referred to and keep everybody on the same page. -F

Thanks, I don't remember seeing that when I looked at the sample.
What I was more curious about is whether the iBook store lets you know if there are real page numbers. The Kindle store has that info, but I didn't see it in the iBook store.

I tend to use the scroll theme for all my reading now. -F
