This solution serves the greatest range of users. As a default load it offers all the sorts and the browsing power of coverflow. Also this default would be the deault display for playlists as well.

    Default.jpg

The Toggel view icon (not shown here) could allow you to choose this OS UI column browser solution as the second of 3 views the third being tiles. The power to scroll through a text list column of albums, artists, songs, genere, seems to be the most useful and most intuitive given the OS UI. Also, like the OS you should be able to set prefrences for views the same way you can in the OS for (albums, genere, artists, songs). In the OS you can set prefrences for, say, docs. window to always open in list or coverflow. etc. Maintain that for iTunes seems to make consistent sense.

It doesn't seem to serve Apple in the best way to begin to treat different parts of the platform in different ways due to iPhone/iPad users VS more advanced Macbook users. Stick with development that ends with the power of the OS on tablets and phones/palm devices. everything will be a powerbook eventually anyway.

Just for some fun i thought i would take a screenshot of SB with the modified MF plugin.

As you can see its not exactly like coverflow but right on its coat tails.

Most of the hotkey shortcuts are the same as itunes as well. It also does the sorting in the same way too.

I actually like it more than iTunes and very glad i stumbled on this setup. Its almost like apple did me a favor!

    So. spread the word!

ps: used CTRLV.IN 's HTML5 paste method to take the screenshot

cool... i will probably just wait for apple to put coverflow back, for now at least.

There is more work to be done for the detailed view of albums. I would like to see BPM & comments able to be included in in this view by prefrences. Same prefrences as we get for the OSperfs.jpg

    Hi DJ,

Nice to somebody using SB, I also like it. However I'd be interested to know how you got your MF plugin working, or are you on an older verson of SB? I'm on the latest version and as far as I understood this plugin isn't compatible ..... or maybe you have a better idea?

    Thanks.

Like mentioned earlier in order to get the plugin to work it needs a small modification before attempting to install it.

The modification is extremely easy to do. First download the latest version of the extension. Then do a search for max compatibility xpi change. All of the information used to change the compatibility for firefox plugins is the same exact method for these extensions. The process is extemely easy to do.

The only tip i have is make sure when you recompress the archive into a new zip file you compress the correct directory. Its very easy to make this mistake.

Let me know if you run into any more specific issues. I will help if i can.

    Hi DJ

Thanks for the tip. I tried out what you suggested after quickly following various instructions found on the WWW. However it seems that I always get an error message saying the file is 'unreadable' or error 104 etc. Have you got any helpful advice, and maybe I don't "compress the correct directory. Its very easy to make this mistake", although I'm pretty sure I'm following the indstructions correctly.

I've tried changing the <em:maxVersion>2.1.0</em:maxVersion> to and also <em:maxVersion>2.1.*</em:maxVersion> on the off chance it would work. I even tried the minVersion later thinking that maybe needed an update.

Any suggestions (big thanks in advance)?

Well the $625 million settlement might have something to do with it.

"On 1 October 2010, Apple was ordered to pay $625.5 million to Mirror Worlds LLC for infringing utility patents relating to Cover Flow.[7][8] On April 4, 2011, Judge Davis reversed the judgement.[9]

With the release of version 11 of iTunes, Cover Flow was removed from the iTunes interface."

lemminglife, that has already been discussed further up in this thread. That judgement was reversed quite a while before Cover Flow was removed. It has nothing to do with the removal of Cover Flow.

Wow, all of you wantin' to b*t*h about it... OKAY... Cover Flow is great, but don't you think that Apple takes in concideration all those "Report" things we click on, or that they accept the line when we decide to complain? Well, iTunes 11 is a product of our hate. Sorry. Reality. I miss Covr Flow, but I got used to what happened with 11. Sure when Mac OS 11 comes out we'll hate it, like Win 8. ****, some people like it. Some people hate X 10.8. Know what? Frig it. Opinions smell like bholes. After reading the comments, most people just complaining, iTunes 11 isn't honestly that bad a, abd B, you can make it still look like the older versions, but with no cover flow. Well I say this; ater reading, peoples intelligence intrigues me. I loved Album View, is it there? didn't care.. So the far left we got bands now in album view. Close enough.

Apple, just do what you gotta do and you know they all got what they asked for. In the end, thank you for not putting Macs in Wal-Mart. Yep, went there. Frig all.

    Hi Ashura

Interesting read, your comment. I personally don't use very many 'Apple' products, even though I use a Mac. Probably like many people I just find the operating system more convenient for what I have to do with computers.

As for iTunes I really don't care either way. However, I think that if you read between the lines - and this applies for other products and changes also -  the problem is not the change, after all we get used to them. The problem is that Mac's policy is not to announce beforehand what they will do next. In the PC world this doesn't happen ... because all the products that a PC user uses are spread over a multitude of developers - take note Mac users! I think that for my money a Mac is a better (probably easier) system to work on. However, the monopole system that Mac maintains means that one is obliged to take the rough with the smooth. It wouldn't hurt Apple to have a try first, change (or not) later policy. It wouldn't cost them anything AND would be an extremely useful way of testing - free of charge - their innovations before implementing them on a full time basis.

Finally I would add that the safest thing to do in the computer world is to spread your choices. There are many alternatives out there to all Mac programs/systems, and many are just as interesting and very flexible. However, if one wishes to stay with Apple a 100% I guess you just have to put up with their idea of change.

Actually, Joesh & Ashura, in the setting that I use cover flow, it's not just a matter of a warning beforehand from Apple, although that would have been nice. No cover flow in 11 is a real, genuine issue for me because my screen is visible to people when I use iTunes, and I don't want the other songs in my library to be visible - nobody's business but my own. It's not a matter of "just getting used to it". It will never work for me.

Joesh, the rest of your post/rant really belongs in a different forum. This one's about cover flow.
