the sim card is the tie between the carrier and the phone
and thats it
iphone 5 use nano sim to get a new sim talk to your carrier
they supply it as it's how they get a connection to your phone

hi. thank you.
so i have an iphone 4 that currently works and an iphone 5 that came in the mail.
i loaded the iphone 5 with the data from my iphone 4.
now they both have sim cards.
how do i determine which phone i want to use? does loading the iphone 5 with the iphone 4 itunes data somehow automatically activate the iphone 5? do i have to call ATT to activate the iphone 5? do i just take out the sim card from the iphone 4 and the iphone 5 is automatically activated/?
can i use BOTH phones?!

You have to tell AT&T which SIM card you want to use. You may be able to do this from their website or by phone. You can't use both at once on the same phone number. To use both you need to call AT&T for a second number. You can share the data plan with tmulyiple numbers.

thanks a lot. i think i got it moving now.
some genius at ATT might think about including a little slip with the phone number in the box so that you can call to do this. this is sort of more of the same from ATT with the left hand right hand routine...
